TRUST ME YOU’LL LOVE THIS: picking daisies
One of my all-time favorite jewelry designers is joining us in the shop this week, and if you’ve not had the pleasure of meeting Ann Lightfoot or indulging in her eponymous collection, you are in for a such a treat!
When asked to describe Ann’s collection, words like organic/modern/understated certainly speak to her inimitable style, but through my own experience with pieces from her collection over the years, I have been amazed at just how “timeless” her work is.
As I look through my jewelry drawer, I can quickly spot phases in my “accessory journey” (chunky, diminutive, silver, gold, silver and gold, resin, reclaimed textiles, and on and on) where something may have been au courant when purchased, but after a season of wear made its way to the back of the drawer where it will live until what’s old becomes new again!
Not only have my Ann Lightfoot pieces never seen the back of my drawer, they are the pieces I reach for every day – even those days when I am “not wearing jewelry” – as there is something about Ann’s work that becomes a part of who you are rather than an adornment. Ann’s work is luxuriously organic and her choices of stones and materials feel wonderful against the skin; even her larger statement pieces feel “grounded” and never too heavy or cumbersome. I love that treasures from her ever-evolving body of work always pair well together, so the necklace you bought two years ago may be layered atop something that caught your eye this season giving it a fresh new vibe. This layering process also affords an opportunity to craft your own look and style.
Somewhere in each of her collections, Ann incorporates a version or two of her signature flowers that remind me of the “daisies” I learned to draw as a child. I have been collecting these simple, elemental flowers for eight years I think, and still cannot resist! As with all of her pieces, they are multi-generational and would make a lovely Mother’s Day gift as well as a high school graduation memento. Something about them seems especially right for this moment.
We hope you’ll join us for this special event – Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 29 through May 1. You will love Ann… and her beautiful collection!
