Wine of the Week [December 1st – December 7th]

Greetings fellow wine enthusiasts!  Regardless of the degree to which you identify with the term, whether you like to enjoy a glass every now and then, or, like me, think seriously about the varietal composition of the wines of biblical times, we here at The Goat would like to foster your love for the drink by offering wine every week that we will showcase here in the blog, and have available for tasting on Fridays from 6~7 p.m.

The pair of wines that we have for this week is just as much a treat for me as it will be for you.  It is not often I am afforded the opportunity to partake in the pleasures of good Burgundy, but when Jean-Baptiste Ponsot’s 2012 1er Cru Rullys arrived here at the Goat, one sommelier could be heard giggling like a schoolgirl.  Premier Cru Burgundy is very simply an example of superior terroir within Burgundy, thusly an example of what is usually superior wine.  Ponsot makes the most of the superior fruit from the vineyards of Montpalais (Chardonnay) and Moleseme (Pinot Noir), producing extrodinary Burgundy that even those without exorbitant budgets can appreciate!

Jean-Baptiste Ponsot’s Premier Cru Rully Blanc is Chardonnay in rare form, with just a touch of new oak complementing this wine’s plush but well structured presentation of zesty citrus, pineapple, and meal!  $28/Retail

Jean-Baptiste Ponsot’s Premier Cru Rully Rouge maintains a bright core of ripe raspberry and boysenberry from start to (long) finish, with fine tannins and minerals gaining presence towards the end! $28/Retail

See you Friday!!!
