TRUST ME…YOU’LL LOVE THIS: comfort & joy
You know how they say you should never go to the grocery store when you are really hungry or you will come home with half the store? Similarly, a move nine months into a pandemic (when you feel like you have been wearing the same clothes since March) can result in some drastic editing! I think we are all longing for a fresh start (…not to mention a new wardrobe and someplace to wear it!)
My husband and I sold our house a few weeks ago and moved across town, and if something didn’t spark joy as we were packing, it did not come with us. Suffice to say, we traveled very, very lightly! But as I look around at the things that “made the cut,” I realize we nestled ourselves in with unmitigated comfort and joy…and isn’t that what we are all craving right now? This got me thinking…what a perfect guideline for holiday shopping this year….a “feel good” Christmas!
As a curator for the shops at Fearrington, my selections for the stores are usually based on this very premise…unscientific, I know….but I am hopeful you will find that we offer a plethora of ideas that are sure to deliver joy and soothe the souls on your list. Throughout the Village, options abound! From relaxing treatments and products in our little spa (so comforting…and if I am venturing out, I want it to be someplace small and private)…to cozy “wow” from Dovecote (the comfy coat in this picture is the only addition to my wardrobe since March! Step aside staples and bring on the novelty!)….whimsy from Nest (with so much isolation this year, a little ornament with a heartfelt note left on someone’s doorstep is especially meaningful!)….delicious meals from our takeaway services (good food always soothes!)….a wonderland of snugly options at Sprout for little ones…and a whole shop of great reads and happy surcies at McIntyre’s.
Oh, and while you are shopping, don’t forget to include something nice for yourself….it’s been a tough year! (….perhaps a getaway weekend in our inn?)
I don’t know about you, but I am finding great comfort in closing out 2020! Let’s wrap it up joyfully!
