Meet Roger & Rhoda

Roger & Rhoda Berkowitz have been Fearrington residents since 1997. We asked them what they loved most about living at Fearrington – here’s what they shared about their experience.

What persuaded you to move to Fearrington?
We were enchanted by Fearrington from the moment we entered the beautiful grounds. It probably also didn’t hurt that we were staying at the Inn! We knew it was absolutely the place for us when we discovered McIntyre’s and when we attended a reading in the Barn by the author Julia Alvarez, with every seat taken and every question from the audience a good one.

What aspects of Camden Park appealed to you?
Camden Park was our choice from the start. We were fortunate that a lot on West Camden would be coming available for building across from the lower pond in the park. This location allows for walks in the park during all seasons and easy access to the mail kiosk and village.

What do you love most about Fearrington?
First and foremost, the sense of community. We have met and continue to meet such interesting and engaged people. There are many organizations which focus on areas such as film, politics, the arts etc. – one can participate or not, as one chooses.

We would next have to list McIntyres Book Shop followed by the choices of places to eat from haute cuisine to a quick sandwich – and they are all delicious. The village has become a vibrant and exciting place. We also love the park, the open pastures, beautiful flowers and “our” Belted Galloway cows.

Can you share one of your fond memories at Fearrington?
Rhoda had some surgery that meant she was bedridden for a week. Two neighbors came by and said that we should not worry about meals, as they would bring them to us every day. Only in Fearrington!
