Supporting Reindeer Readers

Last holiday season, McIntyre’s Books shared holiday cheer with Chatham County students through their Reindeer Reader program, gifting more than 1,200 kindergarten and first grade students in Chatham County with a book to take home over the holidays. Generous sponsors of the program gifted $40 donations to purchase books for a classroom of kindergarten and first-grade students.

This year, the bookstore wants to extend book donations to pre-kindergarten students as well, with a goal of 1,500 book donations this year. The bookstore is looking for classroom sponsors. A donation of $40 can provide an entire Chatham County public school classroom with books to take home for the holidays.

“The gift of literacy is irreplaceable and benefits us all,” says Bookstore Manager Keebe Fitch. “Sarah Carr, our children’s book buyer, and I have been tinkering with the idea of how to get books into the hands of younger students in Chatham County. As Sarah always says, literacy is the best gift one can give.”

McIntyre’s Books is incredibly grateful to each volunteer and sponsor for their thoughtfulness and generosity.

Donations will be accepted through the holiday season. Volunteers are needed to help wrap gifts. McIntyre’s will host an open wrap event on Monday, December 3rd from 11-4.

The bookstore is proud to support the local community as much as possible. Those interested in helping out or learning more should call McIntyre’s Books at 919.542.3030.
