Living at Fearrington

a celebrated village near one of america's top college towns

Fearrington VillageTM is located in Chatham County, just eight miles South of the college town of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, on a former dairy farm with pastures containing our beloved Belted Galloway cows. Fearrington is a planned community that is home to nearly 2,000 residents, including active retirees, young families and working professionals. The community started when R.B. Fitch and his late wife Jenny purchased the Fearrington farm in 1974. The first house in Fearrington Village was built by Fitch Creations, Inc. in the mid-1970s.  “My wife and I grew up in small towns in North Carolina,” says R.B. “When we had the possibility of building our own country village, we thought it would be a nice, lifelong adventure.” Fitch Creations, Inc. continues to be Fearrington’s exclusive builder and developer, creating custom homes that compliment the homesites, neighborhoods and terrain.

Camden Park

Offering diverse neighborhoods ranging from dramatic wooded estates to smaller-scale homes, all Fearrington homeowners benefit from the amenities of the Village Center. Fearrington’s Village Center was inspired by the English villages R.B. saw during his time in the Air Force. Today, Fearrington Village offers award-winning accommodations at The Fearrington House Inn, fine dining at The Fearrington House Restaurant, along with casual dining at The Belted Goat and Roost. Fearrington has boutique shops, including Dovecote Style featuring apparel and accessories, NEST with all things for your home, and McIntrye’s Books, an independent bookstore celebrating its 29th anniversary, and a full-service spa. Also on property, you’ll find easy access to SunTrust Bank and the Village Beauty Salon.

Our proximity to the Triangle area, including Chapel Hill, Durham and Raleigh, and Research Triangle Park, offers a wealth of amenities to residents. It starts with a quality of life ranked among the best in America. Four world-class universities only a short drive away, including the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Duke University, North Carolina State University and Wake Forest University, make lifelong education readily available. From museums to performing art venues, the Triangle is enriched with countless ways to feed the mind. North Carolina’s mild climate and distinct seasons without extremes, make outdoor activities such as golf, walking and biking a possibility year-round. Click here for a list of activities, including museums, public gardens, golfing, animal sanctuaries, all a short drive away!

Fearrington is also a short half-hour drive to Raleigh-Durham International Airport, where eight major airlines offer service to nearly 40 non-stop domestic and international destinations daily. North Carolina’s world-famous beaches and mountains are both less than a three hour drive from Fearrington Village.
