Meet Pat & Suellen

Pat & Suellen Cabe have been Fearrington residents since 2006. We asked them what they loved most about living at Fearrington – here’s what they shared about their experience.

What persuaded you to move to Fearrington?
We had lived in the region – on the other side of Jordan Lake – for a dozen years before our careers took us elsewhere, so we knew about Fearrington Village from the time it began. After we left, we continued to visit Chapel Hill regularly. When it came time to think about a retirement home, Fearrington seemed worth a serious look. Nathalie graciously gave us a tour and pointed out our lot on Woodham. Designing and building a new house, literally from a blank piece of paper, was both exciting and daunting. Jon Condoret, the Fitch Creations architect at the time, helped us design a house that we have truly loved living in for more the past 10 years.

What about the Bush Creek neighborhood appealed to you when deciding between Fearrington’s neighborhoods?
We wanted some elbow room. Our lot on Woodham is nearly an acre and a quarter, and was all wooded. Much of it still is, which we quite like. Our deck looks out over a deep ravine, so the view is stunning. Woodham is a cul de sac, so there is very little traffic, except for our neighbors.

What do you love most about Fearrington?
The strong sense of community we feel, especially among our Woodham neighbors. Given the demands of our work schedules, “neighboring” was not something we had a lot of time for previously. When we moved here, we had no idea that the neighborhood would be as congenial as it has turned out to be. Our monthly “Wine on Woodham” gatherings are highlights of our social life and a super opportunity to stay in touch with our neighbors.

What is one of your fond memories of living at Fearrington?
We have nothing but fond memories of living at Fearrington. We like to think of them as treasured experiences, which we continue to accumulate as our years in Fearrington go by.
