Molly and Robert’s Fearrington Wedding
Molly and Robert married just over a year ago in the Fearrington Village gardens, and then had a big celebration in the barn. Molly shares details about how they met, their engagement story (an engagement orchid – so very sweet), and what they loved most about their special day at Fearrington. Our favorite part: she shared the video! Catch the link at the end for some more wedding bliss. ♥
How did you and your partner meet?
Robert and I met at Clemson University. He is two years older and as we like to tell it, he was the cool older junior when we met…but we all know I am the cool one now! In all seriousness, I was pretty infatuated with Robert from day one. He reeled me in with his guitar skills, “dad jokes” and dance moves. 11 years later, not much has changed!
Tell us about the engagement?
We had planned to spend a weekend in Asheville with our parents and we were all meeting up at the Sierra Nevada brewery. Robert and I walked through their herb garden while we waited for our parents to arrive and he stopped to take out a gold necklace in the shape of an orchid. Every woman in his family has a necklace from the same mold. It is shaped from an orchid his grandfather raised and the original necklace was given to his grandmother. I knew this meant I was becoming an official part of the family. After giving me the necklace, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I turned to see our entire family cheering from the balcony. He had surprised me and invited our entire families to watch and celebrate the weekend with us!
What made Fearrington the place for you to say “I do?”
When I was a little girl, my favorite game was to pretend that I was a fairy. Fearrington feels like my fairy garden come to life! Everything about Fearrington is enchanting, there is so much life and color in every corner. Every time we visit, there are new things blooming. We will be returning for years to come, it is such a special place.
Describe the highlight moment of your wedding day.
I’m not sure I could pick one highlight, because there were so many special moments, but there is a moment that stands out to me. I had planned my ceremony to take place in the gardens. The morning of our wedding was absolutely gorgeous, but the weather radar was calling for showers at the exact time our ceremony was scheduled. I decided to keep our ceremony outdoors instead of moving to our rain plan…I was having a tough time parting with my dream wedding. Of course, it started drizzling right before our guests were to be seated and I was slightly panicked. But our string quartet began playing “Here Comes the Sun” to begin the processional and almost on cue, the sun came out! If that doesn’t give you goosebumps, our first reading, The Apache Wedding Prayer, began like this: “Now you will feel no rain, for each of you will be shelter for the other.” That will always make me smile.
What was the biggest surprise of the day?
My husband surprised me at our rehearsal dinner with my wedding gift – a little, black pug puppy named Angela. We already had a pug at home, our son Dwight. I had met with Fearrington’s cake designer to put a little replica of Dwight’s face on the back of our cake to surprise my husband. To my surprise, they had added a little Angela face on there too! A small detail, I know, but so cute and thoughtful!
What was your biggest surprise about wedding planning?
Looking back, there are so many fun moments I had with my family and my husband along the way. From cake tasting, to acting out our reception entrances, to dress shopping, there are so many chances to spend time with family and really enjoy the process. The day itself goes by so quickly, my best advice would be to make as much out of these moments as you can!
Molly also shared their wedding video, and it’s just wonderful! For a little extra wedding joy, watch it here.
