Sloan & Matthew’s Fearrington Wedding
Megan and Ryan said their ‘I-do’s’ on the garden terrace surrounded by family and friends. The story of how they met makes our hearts go pitter patter. Enjoy!
How did you two meet? So our story is a different one! I was born in New York but my family relocated when I was 8 years old. My childhood best friend and I never lost touch. I went up to New York for her sweet 16 in 2010 and noticed she was dancing with a guy at one point in the night. I turned to one of our mutual friends and asked “whose that guy dancing with Annemarie?” To my surprise, the guy dancing with Annemarie was also asking her who the girl in the white dress was. Like she mentioned in her Maid of Honor speech, the three of us were definitely put into each others lives for a reason. A couple of minutes later he came flying around the corner and started dancing with me….the rest is history. We had our obstacles to overcome since our relationship would be long distance. We spent countless hours on FaceTime and Skye and would fly back and forth to each other once every other month. How our parents let us get away with that I will never understand! But I am so thankful that they did.
Tell us about the engagement. Our engagement was so special to us! We spent a weekend away in our favorite place, Savannah, GA. It was Saturday, April 22 and we decided to start the morning off with a walk through Forsyth Park. I could tell Ryan was a little on edge and acting weird but didn’t think much of it. We ended up at this gorgeous enclosed garden and started talking about anything and everything. After a couple of minutes we were ready to go walk and get breakfast….or so I thought. As I turned to walk away, Ryan grabbed my arm and turned me around. He started off with “you’re my best friend…” and it was one of those “OMG” moments. Of course I said yes! We spent the rest of the day walking around and celebrating just the two of us and eventually went back to the hotel to get ready for dinner. Once we arrived at dinner I felt as if someone was just starring at me. As I turned to my right I saw both sets of parents sitting at a table smiling at us! It was the sweetest and most unforgettable day.
What made Fearrington the place for you to say ‘I do’? Once we started our wedding planning process, we had a few venues that we wanted to tour. Fearrington was obviously at the top of our list! I actually had never told Ryan this until after we booked our date but, I had been wanting to get married at Fearrington since I was 14. When we sat down and met with Gilda everything just felt right. We fell in love with everything Fearrington had to offer, we knew the process would just be so easy with Gilda. Ryan asked if we could walk around the garden by ourselves and talk about it. He took me to one of the ceremony spots and said “I want to marry you here” and started crying! There were so many factors that made Fearrington the easiest “Yes” it might sound cliche but it just felt right to us.
Describe the highlight moment of your wedding day. The whole day was completely perfect and everything we envisioned and imagined. The highlight of our day was walking back up the isle after the ceremony. We both looked at each other and just completely lost it! It was truly a day that we had dreamt about since we were 16 years old. Thinking back on all the flights, hour long skype conversations, endless phone calls and short weekend together was so bittersweet!
What was the biggest surprise of the day? The BIGGEST surprise of the day would have to be my dads welcome speech! It started off like any other speech and then he started playing a recording of me singing “Oops I did it Again” by Britney Spears from when I was 6 years old! It was so unexpected that he had gotten with our DJ (Randy Bennett) and made it all happen!
What was your biggest surprise about wedding planning? Wedding planning was so easy for us! The whole Fearrington Village team just made it a complete breeze for our 18 months of planning! Gilda was the absolute best to work with and if anything went wrong day of we had no idea!
