Meet Julie and Mark
Julie and Mark Bishop built and moved into the Burke neighborhood in Fearrington in 2018. They shared a bit about what brought them to Fearrington Village and what they like most about living here.
What persuaded you to move to Fearrington?
Our first visit to Fearrington Village was in 1991 for Mark’s brother’s wedding. His wife was raised on another dairy farm just a few miles from here. We lived in Virginia at the time and our two daughters were just 2 and 6 years old. It was one of our most favorite weddings. This was before the barn was used for weddings so it took place in the front garden and the reception was in the courtyard. A few years later we moved to Cary and Fearrington Village became our go to for special occasions and Easter brunch. When we decided to downsize we met with the Fitch team and Burke Place had just opened up. We immediately purchased a lot that backed up to protected green space which was important to us.
What about the Burke neighborhood appealed to you when deciding between Fearrington’s neighborhoods?
The main appeal for the Burke neighborhood was large lots with mixed hardwood forested areas along Busch Creek and the pine trees along the ridges. The availability of walking trails to the village was also exactly what we were looking for.
What do you love most about Fearrington?
The presence of the village and Jenny’s garden plus the natural beauty within all of the neighborhoods is what we enjoy most. Both of us grew up in small towns in Michigan so we feel at home in this environment. We also enjoy all of the events in the village and it has been fun getting to know all of the staff that make the village hum. During this pandemic we were amazed at how well the management team adapted and kept the shops and restaurants functioning. We can’t imagine being in a better place to be during this time.
What is one of your most fond memories of living in Fearrington?
So far, one our favorite memories is the monthly pot luck dinners that were planned by the new residents of the Burke and Millcreek neighborhoods. We have also enjoyed meeting are newest neighbors and getting to know them. Our first night here we loved seeing the moon and how it lit up the woods behind our house, the brightness of the stars, and the quiet nights.
