McJanuary
We made it, y’all — 2018! Still waiting on our jetpacks, but we’re in the FUTURE. Happy New Year!
Here are all the bookish things happening this month.
First of all, if you’ve been wondering how to start a book club for your littles, we’ve got you covered! Join our fabulous Children’s Book Buyer, Sarah Carr for this event:
Saturday, January 6th at 4pm: Children’s Book Club Party!
Also for the littles – storytime with our own fantastic Sarah Carr! Stories, songs and all around fun for babies, toddlers and preschoolers with Miss Sarah and an occasional friend.
- Tuesday, January 9th at 10:30am: Nursery Rhymes!
- Tuesday, January 16th at 10:30am: Let’s Count!
- Tuesday, January 30th at 10:30am: Meow!
And here are the rest of January’s offerings:
Saturday, January 13th at 11am: Caroline Taylor – Loose Ends
When armed gunmen invade Carson Mahoney’s Washington, D.C., home in 1976 and then blow it up, she decides she must disappear. She’s already a suspect in the murder of her former husband, so calling the police is not an option. Neither is jail.
Thursday, January 18th at 4pm: Bookends Book Club discusses Shirley Jackson
On Thursday, January 18, 2018, we’ll explore Shirley Jackson’s We Have Always Lived in the Castle. Don’t hesitate to invite a friend or two to join us! And as with all book club titles registered with McIntyre’s, this book is offered at a 20% discount.
Afterwards The Granary is preparing a pop-up dinner at 6pm. Check out the link for the menu, priced at $42 per person for a three-course meal.
Saturday, January 20th at 11am: Donna Everhart – The Road to Bittersweet
Set in the Carolinas in the 1940s, The Road to Bittersweet is a beautifully written, evocative account of a young woman reckoning not just with the unforgiving landscape, but with the rocky emotional terrain that leads from innocence to wisdom.
Saturday, January 20th at 2pm: Sujata Massey – Widows of Malabar Hill
Bombay, 1921: Perveen Mistry, the daughter of a respected Zoroastrian family, has just joined her father’s law firm, becoming one of the first female lawyers in India. This is A Publishers Weekly Top 10 Mystery for Fall, A Library Journal Editor’s Pick for Fall 2017, and A Starred Booklist Review: Introducing an extraordinary female lawyer-sleuth in a new historical series set in 1920s Bombay.
