Real Weddings
Lauren & Jorge
Lauren & Jorge tied the knot on October 21, 2017. These newlyweds said their “I do”s under the Crabapple Trees and danced the day away at The Barn!
• How did you and your partner meet? We met while working at a family medicine clinic in Chicago. Jorge was working as a behavioral therapist and I was doing a rotation during medical school. I didn’t know it at the time, but Jorge planned his lunch breaks so that he could eat with me. On my last day of the rotation, he bought me coffee and gave me his email and Facebook contact (which he also gave to my friend so that he didn’t seem too interested!). I knew there was something special about him, so I reached out to him a shortly after my rotation ended. Unfortunately, he didn’t know how to use Facebook (he still doesn’t) and missed my message. Luckily, I was persistent and once he realized I’d contacted him, he called me right away to ask me on a date.
• Tell us about the engagement? During my last year of residency in Los Angeles, Jorge and I had planned a trip back to the east coast to visit my family. One day while we were there we decided to go to Harper’s Ferry (a place I visited frequently while growing up in Maryland). We had a lovely day hiking and soaking in the sun. Jorge then took me up to an overlook, with gorgeous views of the Potomac, and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I of course said yes and then we celebrated with my family. What I didn’t know was that before we left for Harper’s Ferry, he had asked my whole family for their blessing. Having them involved in the engagement made it even more special.
• What made Fearrington the place for you to say “I do?’ We were planning our wedding from Los Angeles, but decided to get married in North Carolina since my parents lived there. My mom had been to a talk at the Fearrington Barn and suggested that we take a look. From the moment we arrived at Fearrington, we knew it was the place we wanted to get married. The Inn and the Barn had the rustic charm that reminded me of where I grew up in Maryland. The grounds and the gardens were gorgeous and the staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful. There was really nowhere else that could compete. Gilda, Mary, and all the staff at Fearrington made planning our wedding from the other side of the country as easy as it could possibly be. When we started wedding planning, Jorge and I agreed that one of the most important things for us was to be able to enjoy our wedding day and not be stressed about any of the day-of details. I can truly say that the Fearrington team made that possible. Gilda kept everything running smoothly, so that we were able to enjoy our family, friends, and each other. On top of that, everything was executed perfectly. The flowers and cake were exactly what I had envisioned, and my guests raved about the food for weeks after (in fact they still rave about it every time we talk about my wedding). The Fearrington is truly a special place and we see ourselves spending many anniversaries there!
• Describe the highlight moment of your wedding day. There were so many wonderful moments that day that it is difficult to choose, but the ceremony itself was probably most special to us. Being able to share our love for each other with our closest family and friends (many of whom had traveled long distances to be with us), was something we will cherish forever.
• What was the biggest surprise of the day? I think we were both pleasantly surprised with how much we were able to enjoy the day and not have to worry about any of the details because the Fearrington team did that for us!
• Anything you want to add about your wedding story? We are just so thankful to everyone at Fearrington, our vendors, and all of our family and friends for making our day so special. It was everything we had envisioned and more.
