The Fearrington House Restaurant

fine dining seasonal cuisine at its best

The Fearrington House Restaurant, located in Fearrington Village just outside of Chapel Hill, has been offering fine dining cuisine to the Triangle for nearly 40 years. Best known for the exceptional service, seasonal menus and hot chocolate soufflé, The Fearrington House prides itself on partnerships with local farms and crafting fresh, inspired dishes for its guests. Our menus change seasonally as new items are harvested from our on-site vegetable and herb gardens. We source items we are unable to grow on property from local farms, including Duckwood Farms and Heritage Farms.

The intimate dining rooms found within The Fearrington House Restaurant, once the original farm homestead, have welcomed guests with classic Southern hospitality and a European flair since 1980. Guided by seasonality, Executive Chef Colin Bedford’s cuisine interplays the legendary culinary traditions of the American South with his European training and a focus on local ingredients. Bedford joined The Fearrington House in 2005 and was promoted to Executive Chef in 2008. Since then, his exceptional menus have won critical acclaim. The Fearrington House earned a national ranking as one of the top hotel food destinations in the world, boasting a AAA Five Diamond status. In 2012, Chef Bedford was named a Grand Chef by Relais & Châteaux, the international culinary world’s highest honor.

“Food is powerful in many ways,” says Chef Bedford. “A dish’s smell can trigger a million memories for guests. For example, when I add a ‘posh’ beef stew on the menu, it takes me back to being a child and coming home from playing football (American soccer). My mum would have a big pan of beef stew on the back of the stove. My team and I utilize this notion of nostalgia to make our fine dining experience approachable and easy for guests to enjoy.”

Our menu is complemented by a beverage program featuring an extensive wine list, a fully-equipped bar, cocktails with local ingredients and beers celebrating North Carolina breweries. The beverage program is overseen by Beverage Director Paula de Pano.

This fine dining establishment does not have a formal dress code. A minimum of smart casual wear is preferred, with jackets and ties recommended but not required for men. We request that sports attire, denim, and flip-flops are to be avoided in the main dining room.

The Fearrington House Restaurant is located eight miles south of Chapel Hill and 20 miles west of Durham, the Research Triangle Park and Cary.

A few months ago, I wrote a post about the significance of different veggies, botanicals and fruits when it comes to the integrity of a good liquor; the same significance applies to the food on your plate and the cocktail in your glass. For many years now at the Fearrington...
