At Fearrington House Restaurant
National Chocolate Soufflé Day
February is the month for all things lovely, from your significant other to indulgent delights. You don’t have to be a lush to appreciate delectable chocolate desserts and digestifs, and if you need an excuse, two national holidays this month have been devoted to the enjoyment of such delicacies. The 18th of February is devoted to drinking wine and, likewise, the 28th devoted to soufflés.
It’s no secret that the Fearrington House offers a, dare I say it, famous soufflé, and has for the better part of 40 years. There’s no reservation needed for sitting at the bar and enjoying the two sizes we offer – we offer a small soufflé for getting the left foot wet, and a properly large one to really celebrate the holiday. A good day ends with a huge amount of chocolate… But how about the beginning and middle?
That’s where the wine comes in. I am personally partial to vermouths when I’m enjoying a soufflé, but we are not discerning when it comes to personal preferences, and the House has it all. A fine sweet vermouth pairs excellently, and is what I would pour myself. Add a splash of club soda, and if you’re daring, a twist or slice of orange for a touch of acidity to cut through the richness of the chocolate.
Also available at the House is an exciting collection of sherries, ports, and other fortified wines. And even if those types of wine aren’t your style, our finely curated wine list manages to be an interesting read, and takes you on a journey across the world. That being said, it is much more immersive to ask for and enjoy these extensive and diverse wines from the other sides of the planet.
When it comes down to it, though, you really can’t go wrong when it comes down to drinking wine and eating chocolate soufflé. Come to the Fearrington House Bar and allow your bartender to treat you to the finest we have to offer.
