May 24, 2021
Please welcome our newest addition to the wine class calendar — our wine & book club ‘En Vino Veritas’. This will be a quarterly event, only virtual for now, and will feature different wine-themed fiction and nonfiction. Our second featured book will be Judgement of Paris: California vs. France and the historic 1976 Paris tasting that revolutionized wine by George M. Taber. To celebrate America’s bicentennial, on May 24, 1967, Steven Spurrier held a blind tasting of French & Californian wines with some of the best wine palates in the business. The results were baffling, putting California on the wine map, essentially ensuring the California wine market becoming a booming success. This was such an historic event, some of the wines from the tasting are on display at the Smithsonian Museum, directly across from Julia Child’s kitchen. It only felt appropriate to host this wine & book club on the actual date of the event to celebrate, so let’s raise our glasses to these significant wineries of California, and to honor Steven Spurrier’s memory. He passed away just weeks ago, leaving the wine educational world with incredibly big shoes to fill. The book club discussion will be held via Zoom, and we will discuss some of the most famous properties of Napa & Sonoma Valleys.
To ensure proper time to read the book before class meet-up, this experience must be ordered in advance so that McIntyres Books has ample time to get this title for you. Please register by May 9th in order to receive the book before class. You will be contacted as soon as the book is ready for pick-up at The Belted Goat mid-April. Take-home wines & snacks will be available for pick-up at The Belted Goat the day before class. The Zoom link will be sent via email for attendance.
Online tickets include the take-home wines, the book, a bite-sized snack from Fearrington’s Chef Team, & the zoom class dialogue.
