What drew you to Fearrington? Well, I needed a job! I was managing the restaurant as well as weddings and events; it was one position then. How long have you been part of the team? Thirty-seven years. There’s no place like home. What do you like most about being part of the team here? RB and Jenny were such lovely people—fair, lots of integrity. They did things right. RB is such a good man to work for. And he always had a knack for hiring happy people. I love the people I work with. I love being surrounded by really nice, competent people. I didn’t want a corporate environment and this is not that. What was your most memorable experience? One was the first time I ever had to help get a cow back into the cow pasture! Another was probably my first dinner at the Fearrington House Restaurant with my first paycheck. I took my parents and I ordered sweetbreads, which I had never had. To this day, I still crave sweetbreads. What are your hobbies and interests outside of work? I walk my dogs and work on my garden, here in Fearrington!

What drew you to Fearrington? Well, I needed a job! I was managing the restaurant as well as weddings and events; it was one position then. How long have you been part of the team? What drew you to want to join Fearrington Village? I moved to Chatham County just shy of ten years ago. I moved here with no job lined up. We had just had our first child and were living with my in-laws. It was a wonderful time to be alive. (🙂) How long have you been part of the team? During my initial job hunt, a sous chef position was posted for the Granary. I eagerly applied but never heard anything back….so eventually I landed a job in carrboro….fast forwarded 5 years and Christina finds a job posting for here (the Goat). Carrboro was a nightmare of 70 hour work weeks. I desperately wanted to work within the community I lived in AND not work like a donkey. So I was thrilled when I got offered the spot here to become a part of this community. It certainly was an improvement to my livelihood and I’ve logged in almost 5 years of service What do you like the most about being part of the team here? We are a good ensemble of humans. I enjoy being a part of it. Everyone appreciates everyone. You feel rewarded for doing your job. It’s a healthy thing. RB is a champion of a leader. It’s all good here. What was your most memorable experience here in Fearrington? I think as long as I work here I will always remember the odd feeling of working here throughout Covid. Coming here to a completely empty parking lot. That odd sense of uncertainty of what was happening in the world. And then, special things began to happen. It was just us chefs, putting our heads together to adapt to what became Take out for Two dinners and also what has evolved in to the store and grab and go. What are your hobbies and interests outside of work? I enjoy playing my guitar on my shady back deck and spending time with my lovely wife and 2 (sometimes) wonderful children.

What drew you to Fearrington Village? Initially, was just a better paying job, but it became a lot more than that as I got to know the residents and other folks around the Village, so I guess I stayed for the gratification. How long have you been part of the team? I've been here (minus by brief time away) since September 2015, so nearly 8 years. What do you like the most about being part of the team here? It doesn't feel sterile like a lot of other jobs do - the warmth and connection with the residents and other staff feel like a family. Things can get crazy sometimes, but for the most part it has been cozy and gratifying working and learning here. What was your most memorable experience here in Fearrington? My most memorable experience might be the memorial service I attended for one of our regular bar guests. I have gotten to know Arlin Bartlett, a local, and they would always come to the bar and keep me company. He invited me to the service, which was held on the Terrace, and being part of that was really special. She was the sweetest person ever, and it was really nice that we were able to do that for them and I could be there. What are your hobbies and interests outside of work? My hobbies outside of work include waiting hand and foot on my little golden retriever, Maeve, which is 90% of my life. Otherwise, I enjoy noodling on a guitar or mandolin, and I'm a huge nerd and enjoy story-based games.
