Award Winning Chutneys at Nest
Le Bon Magot, or “the hidden treasure”, produces specialty chutney and marmalata inspired by the owner’s family heritage and international experience. The chutney has been a ubiquitous part of Indian cuisine since before 500 B.C., with each region relying on a distinctive spice blend to preserve locally cultivated or foraged produce. Currently, Nest offers four varieties of these uniquely flavored chutneys —all winners of the sofi award, the specialty food industry’s highest honor:
Brinjal Caponata
2018 Gold Winner
With origins in Western India, the sweet-and-sour taste of this relish pairs well with ricotta cheese or Greek yogurt. The purple aubergine seasoned with cumin and curry leaves is delicious swirled into traditional mashed potatoes, added to an Asian-inspired meatloaf, or rolled into a flatbread filled with spicy omelette for a unique breakfast on-the-go.
Lemon-Sultana Marmalata
2017 Bronze Winner
Fragrant Afghan saffron, licorice-scented caraway, citrusy lemon and tart verjus all conspire to produce an evocative marmalade reminiscent of the dried fruit preserves of Turkey. Drizzle it on cheesecake, use it in a classic bread pudding or stuff it in a crêpe with mascarpone cream for an unusual dessert.
Tomato and White Sultana Chutney
2017 Gold Winner
With the sweet fruitiness of tomato married to piquant Kashmiri chilies seasoned with ginger and garam masala, you will not feel the need to reach for ketchup. Whether jazzing up charcuterie or simply applied on toasted ciabatta, this chutney will become your plate-side companion at every meal.
Spiced Raisin Marmalata
2017 Gold Winner
Ebony nuggets of raisin hang in a sweet and spicy syrup, honoring ras al hanout, North Africa’s signature blend of rose petals, cinnamon, and cardamom. Bake up a spiced version of a traditional oatmeal raisin cookie or try a riff on a PB&J with feta and pine nuts for an East-meets-West treat!
