Wine of the Week [November 17th – November 23rd]

Greetings fellow wine enthusiasts!  Regardless of the degree to which you identify with the term, whether you like to enjoy a glass every now and then, or, like me, get together with record executives to explore the market for rapping sommeliers (with Max, Paula, and myself as the Schlossböckelheimer Kupfer-groovers…), we here at The Goat would like to foster your love for the drink by offering wine every week that we will showcase here in the blog, and have available for tasting on Fridays from 6~7 p.m.

Austria once again plays host for the two wines we will feature this week, with both coming from the cellars of a Mr. Leo Hillinger.  If the name sounds vaguely familiar it’s because we’ve had their Blaufränkisch here at the Goat for a while.  Hillinger’s wines are made at their recently constructed ultra-modern facilities in Burgenland, half buried, with vines planted atop of portions of the structure.  Very cool digs!

Hillinger’s Pinot Gris (Grigio) is a nose full of ripe golden delicious apples and citrus zest with a mouth full of soft apple minerals and delightfully calm acidity.  Cheers!  $16/Retail

Hillinger’s Pinot Noir displays a medley of spiced, woody, and toasted vanilla notes at first whiff, with raspberries and strawberries showing upon closer inspection!  $18/Retail

See you Friday!!!
