Wine of the Week [November 10th – November 16th]

Greetings fellow wine enthusiasts!  Regardless of the degree to which you identify with the term, whether you like to enjoy a glass every now and then, or, like me, trace wine maps to learn the geography of different regions, we here at The Goat would like to foster your love for the drink by offering wine every week that we will showcase here in the blog, and have available for tasting on Fridays from 6~7 p.m.

The storied Bodegas Ochoa are the source of the wine for this week.  Spain, more specifically Navarra, is the corner of the earth where Javier and Adriana Ochoa oversee the creation of some truly fantastic stuff.  Although centuries separate the beginnings of the Bodega from the present, there has remained a personal approach to quality regarding the wine they produce.  A number of white and red varieties are grown, as well as number of wines produced from those grapes, through a range of blends and styles.  We will focus our attention on just two of their many offerings, one red and one white.  The white being fermented in stainless steel and aged in bottle for 6 months, while the red gets a taste of French oak before its bottle aging regimen.  Both are easy to approach and enjoy, and drink so much better than the piddly assortment of numbers on the price tag suggests.  Don’t miss this Friday!

Ochoa’s Viura & Chardonnay actually blends in a smidgen of Moscatel to give even more aromatic dimension to this incredibly fresh white.  Snappy, light, and delicious!  $13/Retail

Ochoa’s Graciano & Garnacha blend is fleshy, overripe strawberry, blueberry, sweet vanilla goodness in a glass!  $16/Retail

See you Friday!!!
