Greetings fellow wine enthusiasts! Regardless of the degree to which you identify with the term, whether you like to enjoy a glass every now and then, or, like me, spend 30 minutes looking over a wine list and then order a bunch of cocktails, we here at The Goat would like to foster your love for the drink by offering wine every week that we will showcase here in the blog, and have available for tasting on Fridays from 6~7 p.m.
Ah, Italy. There is almost quite literally a bottle of Italian wine for every Italian. The range of styles, interpretations, and varieties in both the controlled (IGT, DOCG, etc.) and the renegade (Super Tuscans, etc.) offerings from producers here is mind boggling! However, one good thing about this is that you don’t need to look at the “high end” of the spectrum in order to find wines of distinction. Two fantastic examples of this are the red and white wine that we have featured this week. Tenuta Mazzolino, who we’ve had the pleasure of having a Fearrington Wine Dinner with, is the producer for the white, and Villa Travignoli, whose Chianti Rufina 1L has been a staple here at the Goat for a long while.
Tenuta Mazzolino’s Camara Chardonnay is magic from Provincia di Pavia in Italy! A simple, clean presentation of its yellow citrus and honeydew fruit, finishing bright and easy. $14/Retail
Villa Travignoli’s Chianti Rufina is a liter of lipsmacking Sangiovese! A little oak influence helps meld the bright cherry and raspberry fruit into something much more elegant and food friendly than your typical (sweeter) bargain Chiantis. $17/Retail
See you Friday!!!
