You have the venue and the dress, what’s next? The cake of course! The Fearrington House Restaurant’s cake designer and chocolatiere Emma Isakoff will work with you to create your wedding cake vision.
From your initial meeting with Emma to your cake tasting to the cutting of the final product, rest assured that your confectionery creation is in skilled hands. All Fearrington cakes are made from scratch with the freshest ingredients available, including butter (never shortening!) and high quality Valrhona cocoa for chocolate and red velvet cakes as well as chocolate fillings. As for the cake, we were fortunate to work with Emma as our designer. With wedding cakes these days, the possibilities are endless, which can be overwhelming very quickly. Fortunately, we had a fairly good idea of what we were looking for, and Emma helped us hone in on the right textures, layers, and design elements we wanted to go with. Of course, this entire process was very fun (tasting…yum!) and Emma gave us plenty of time to try the different flavors, combinations, and offered some very useful suggestions along the way. She exhibited a confidence in her abilities to get the exact look we were hoping for, which gave us a great sense of ease and allowed us to just be excited about the final product. In the end, Emma nailed the look we wanted, and the flavors were to-die-for when we got to have some during and after the reception. The Fearrington’s cake services are first class, very fairly priced, and Emma was a truly inspired pleasure to work with.

Thank you so much for turning my vision into reality and baking such beautiful cakes for [groom] and I. We were so pleased with how they turned out, not to mention how delicious they tasted! I think I ate at least four pieces by the end of the night. [Groom] absolutely loved his groom’s cake and he was so surprised when he saw it. What a special memory for him and I. Both of our cakes were extraordinary (the wedding and groom’s)! I could not have imagined the detail and realism of the Fender guitar cake. From the tone/volume knobs, to the “bird’s eye” speckle of the “guitar neck,” to the subtle color contrast on the “headstock” – it was just unbelievable (delicious too)! The wedding cake was absolutely beautiful! To the design (gorgeous) and the flavor (scrumptious). I may not be able to wait until our second anniversary to have another slide! Emma Isakoff, Chocolatiere and Cake Designer
Originally from Washington, DC, Emma joined the Fearrington pastry team in 2013. She received her B.A. at Skidmore College and attended Le Cordon Bleu in Boston for Pastry and Baking. In the past year Emma has worked as a pastry line cook, as well as in pastry production. Recognized for her passion for cakes, Emma was promoted to Cake Designer in 2014. She looks forward to creating a vision for your special day!
Colin Bedford, Executive Chef
A native of England, Colin came to The Fearrington House in 2005 as Executive Sous Chef and was promoted to Executive Chef in 2008. Colin’s culinary interest began early on, taking him to The Castle Hotel, Niagara on The Lake and Prince of Wales Hotel. Colin partners with local farmers, using the finest ingredients from the region and our gardens. In 2012, Colin was named a Grand Chef by Relais & Chateaux. Tom Whitaker, Executive Sous Chef
Hailing from Hexham in the North East of England, Tom began his culinary education at Queen Elizabeth High School. After working in some of the top restaurants in the region, Tom moved to the United States in 2006 and began working at The Fearrington House. Tom became Executive Sous Chef in 2009.
Thomas Card, Sous Chef
Originally from central New York, Thomas trained in some of the region’s best fine dining establishments until 2005, when he then relocated to Emerald Isle, NC to refine his culinary skills with fresh sea food and local produce. Thomas then moved to Raleigh to join the opening team of the Umstead Hotel and Spa. After four years Thomas left to join The Fearrington House as a Sous Chef in 2011.
