R.B. Fitch and
his late wife Jenny
started Fearrington Village in the mid-1970s with a vision of an open
and caring village that would enrich the region. Both grew up in nearby
small towns - R.B. in Chapel Hill, and Jenny in Siler City - and they
wanted to infuse Fearrington with the same friendly, civic- minded
spirit they knew growing up.
Today, the Fitch family, doing business as Fearrington Village, gives
back to the community in a variety of ways. We also welcome the
community through free activities throughout the year, and are active in
philanthropic efforts. As a
stable employer and taxpayer we've supported the local
economy, and our various businesses - including The Fearrington
House Restaurant, Inn, spa, shops and other restaurants - have played a vital role in local travel
and tourism. See some recent
media coverage.
Community Events
We host events and activities throughout the year which are, with a few exceptions,
offered free to all:
• Holiday gatherings are festive and attended by thousands, many who
return each year; events include PumpkinFest on Halloween; the Holiday
Market crafts fair which promotes local artists; Christmas season
Storytelling with Donald Davis; and The Fearrington
Folk Art Show,
which showcases the work of nearly 40 of the South's finest folk artists
(a small admission is charged for this event).
• Well-maintained gardens are open year-round.
• Our Belted Galloway Cows and Tennessee Fainting Goats in the pastures
around the Village Center love visitors.
• Local, regional and nationally acclaimed author events at
McIntyre's Books
or the barn next door (more than 150 poets and writers came to
Fearrington last year).
• Live music on weekend days at Roost,
our new beer garden, weather permitting.
All our listed on our community calendar. For reminders,
sign up for the
monthly e-newsletter and mark your calendars!
Philanthropy
Charitable donations include financial contributions, special events,
and in-kind donations. Our philanthropic efforts focus on promoting
education, family support, the arts and charitable organizations within
Chatham County and nearby Orange County. Current philanthropic efforts
include:

fundraising events co-hosted with such public radio luminaries as Susan Stamberg,
Diane Rehm, Lynne Rossetto Kasper and Sylvia Poggoli.
• Chatham County Economic Development Corp: we're a ongoing contributor
to
Opportunity Chatham, an ambitious five year growth economic growth
initiative to attract strategically important jobs to our county.
• Chatham County Public Schools: our very own Chef Colin Bedford has
helped redesign the system's lunch program to include healthier
options for students (read
his blog posting here).
