The
Story So Far...
It all began in a charming country village in 1989, when McIntyre's
Fine Books And Bookends opened its doors to the public.

Happy
Birthday, McIntyre's!
On April 20th, 2009, McIntyre's Fine Books celebrated 20 years as a
part of Fearrington Village and the surrounding community. We marked
the occasion with discussions of our favorite books over the years,
reminiscing about great author readings past, and a beautiful
birthday cake baked by the Fearrington House Pastry Chefs. It was
great to see everybody - familiar faces and some new ones! - on this
very special occasion. Below are a few photos from the afternoon.
Thanks again to everyone who helped us celebrate our 20th Birthday!

COMMUNITY READ
2009
The Friends of the Pittsboro Memorial Library and McIntyre's Fine
Books in Fearrington are co-sponsoring Community Read 2009:
Exploring Our Shared Racial History. This year's selected books are
The Help by Kathryn Stockett and Blood Done Sign My Name
by Timothy Tyson. Both books take readers to the 1960's and
1970's when many small Southern towns were barely touched by the
civil rights movement, and they speak to the emotional struggle for
racial equality, as viewed from very different perspectives. Book
discussions and related programs and activities will begin in March
and continue through November.
What is a Community Read? Since 1998, many
communities have embraced the notion of bringing people together through
the reading and discussion of common books. Today there are statewide,
citywide, countywide, and even country-wide reading programs all over
the world. Community Read 2009 builds on several successful Community
Read programs in Chatham County, including The Secret Life of Bees
(2003) and The Kite Runner (2004). For 2009, we welcome those of
different races, faiths and economic backgrounds to participate in
reading and discussing our separate and shared past in the light of the
present moment. We’ve selected two books that promise to help us rethink
our assumptions and learn from one another. For more
information about the Community Read
program, call McIntyre’s Fine Books at

LynnE Rossetto Kasper

McIntyre's Fine Books was honored to host a reading and
discussion with Lynne Rossetto Kasper,
who has captivated radio listeners for many years as co-host of
NPR's The Splendid Table, spoke to an equally enthralled
audience of over 200 guests in The Fearrington Barn. In addition to
discussing her new cookbook, The Splendid Table's How To Eat
Supper, she also shared insights into the evolution of food
shows in the media, the importance of individuals and restaurants
buying from local suppliers, the history of agriculture in society
and much more. We would like to thank Lynne, as well as everyone who
joined us to make this event such a success.
