  Whirligigs
Whimsical, wind-driven whirligigs featuring belted cows, bicycles and animals greet visitors and residents to Fearrington Village. The elaborately engineered and colorful sculptures were created by North Carolina artist Vollis Simpson.  Now in his late 80s, Vollis continues to create whirligigs, although on a much smaller scale, at his workshop in Lucama near Wilson, NC.  Vollis's work can be found at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh, the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore, and the annual Whirligig Festival in Wilson.

The Folk Art Gallery
On the first level of The Old Granary is the Folk Art Gallery, offering original works of art for sale by some of the Southeast's finest Folk Artists. Fearrington's fondness of Folk Art was inspired by Winston Salem Artist Sam 'The Dot Man' McMillan, whose dotted artwork and furniture can now be found throughout the Old Granary Restaurant and Bar.  The Folk Art Gallery is open during regular Old Granary hours and has a selection of colorful artwork for sale.  Current work includes colorfully cut-out turtles and fish by Bebo, contemporary folk art oil paintings by Danny Doughty and animal themed wall-art by Tim & Lisa Kluttz.
