Ron
Rash: Tuesday, October 7th at 7pm
McIntyre's Fine Books is pleased to host author Ron Rash as he reads
from his latest book, Serena. The year is 1929, and
newlyweds George and Serena Pemberton arrive from Boston in the North
Carolina mountains to create a timber empire. Serena is new to the
mountains, but she soon shows herself the equal of any worker;
overseeing crews, hunting rattlesnakes, even saving her husband's life
in the wilderness. Together, this Lord and Lady Macbeth of the woodlands
ruthlessly kill or vanquish all who fall out of favor. Ron Rash's family has lived in the
Appalachian Mountains since the mid-1700's and it is this region that is
the primary focus of his writing. Author of 8 books, he holds the John
Parris Chair in Appalachian Studies at Western Carolina University. His
works have appeared in over 100 journals, magazines, and anthologies and
have garnered numerous awards.
