Botanical Garden: Jenny Elder Fitch Lecture
"The Love of Gardening: The Legacy
of Elizabeth Lawrence"
On Saturday, November 15th at 1pm in The Barn,
McIntyre's Fine
Books is delighted to present Emily Herring Wilson, the
biographer of Elizabeth Lawrence and editor of her letters, who will
present a lecture on the life and work of the renowned Southern gardener
and American garden writer. Wilson will discuss what led to Elizabeth's
choice of a gardening life, the publication of books that have become
classics, and to her reputation today as one of America's premier garden
writers. Famed author Doris Betts will be introducing Ms. Wilson, and a
reception and book signing for both authors will follow the lecture.

Join us in the Fearrington Village Center on Sunday, December 7th
from 12-4pm
for the 3rd annual Fearrington Holiday Market!
Inspired by the delightful Christmas Markets in Europe, our festive
Holiday Market is the perfect place to find unique gifts from local
artists, outstanding vendors and the shops at Fearrington in a relaxed
setting. Shoppers can savor roasted
chestnuts and mulled wine while browsing, and enjoy festive holiday
music by Fearrington a cappella groups and The Bronze Voices Hand Bell
Choir of Chapel Hill from
2-3pm. There will be holiday cookie decorating for the kids, and Chatham Outreach Alliance (CORA) will be at

Books
collecting canned food for the local food pantry. The
Holiday Market is free to attend and open to the public.

Wine Maker Dinner:
Adelsheim Vineyard
Sunday, November 9th at 6pm
David Adelsheim, founder of Adelsheim Vineyard, will join
Fearrington Wine Director
Maximilian Kast
for an exceptional wine dinner
at
The Fearrington House Restaurant. Adelsheim Vineyard is located in
the Chehalem district in Oregon's Willamette Valley. They produce some
of the most distinct and nuanced Pinot Noirs in the region, as well as a
long list of outstanding white wines and dessert wines. The Adelsheims
are among the pioneers in the Willamette Valley as the second oldest
producer of Pinot Noir, and the third oldest producer of Pinot Gris in
the United States. $150 per guest, plus tax & gratuity. Spaces are

Presents Roy Underhill
McIntyre's
Fine Books is delighted to present author and television host Roy
Underhill, reading from The Woodwright's Guide: Working Wood with
Wedge and Edge on Saturday, November 1st at 11am. For 30
years, Underhill's PBS program "The Woodwright's Shop" has brought
classic hand-tool craftsmanship to viewers across America. Now, in his
seventh book, Roy shows how to engage the mysteries of the splitting
wedge and the cutting edge to shape wood from forest to furniture.
Bluegrass Experience: 37th Anniversary Concert
Join us in The Fearrington Barn on Friday, November 7th at 7pm
for this exciting musical event, featuring Tommy Edwards, Thomas
"Snuffy" Smith, "Fiddlin" Al McCanless, Michael Aldridge and Stan Brown.
The show will be hosted by John Shelton Reed. (see below for his

Fine Books is delighted to
welcome John Shelton Reed and Dale Volberg Reed back to
Fearrington to discuss Holy Smoke: The Big Book of North Carolina
Barbecue, which they wrote with William McKinney. Authoritative,
spirited, and opinionated (in the best way), Holy Smoke is a
passionate exploration of the lore, recipes, traditions, and people who
have helped shape North Carolina's signature slow-food dish. Chapel Hill

'Great
Decisions' Discussion: If I were President
On Thursday, November 13th
at
1:30pm, Fearrington's Great Decisions group will present a discussion
in The Fearrington Barn entitled "If I were President...Thoughts on The
Middle East" with guest speaker Dr. Akram Khater. A native of Lebanon,
Dr. Khater is Associate Professor of History and director of the Middle
Eastern Studies program at North Carolina State University. He has
written and lectured widely, sharing his expertise on topics relating to
the Middle East and North Africa. This event is free and open to the
public. We do ask that attendees bring a canned food or monetary
donation for The Chatham Outreach Alliance (CORA).
Great Decisions is a foreign affairs
discussion group run by residents of Fearrington Village. The
organization gathers for nine discussions each year
to discuss topics based on the The Foreign Policy Association's annual
discussion program. Speakers come from local universities and
communities, including several distinguished residents of Fearrington.
