Nan Chase
and Chris McCurry: Bark House Style
On Friday, March 20th at 2pm,
McIntyre's
Fine Books welcomes Nan Chase and
Chris McCurry to Fearrington to read from and discuss Bark House
Style: Sustainable Designs From Nature. Resurrected from a practice
begun in North Carolina in the 1800s, designing with bark shingles is
again the epitome of sustainable design. Chris McCurry and her
husband originated modern poplar bark shingle manufacturing. She is
a pioneer in today's indoor-outdoor bark house design and a building
industry professional. She is a member of the U.S. Green Building
Council and the American Chestnut Foundation. Nan Chase writes
about architecture and landscape design from her home in western North
Carolina. She is the author of Asheville: A History, and her work
has also appeared in the New York Times, Smithsonian, Fine Gardening,
Architectural Record, and Southern Living.
Kathryn Stockett: The Help
On Saturday, March 21st at 11am,
Kathryn Stockett will join us at
McIntyre's for a discussion of The
Help - a deeply moving novel that creates three extraordinary women
whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a
town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one
another. This book is part of the 2009 Community Read project, sponsored
by McIntyre's and The Friends of The Pittsboro Memorial Library.

A
New Club Springs Up at Fearrington
One of the best reasons to live in Fearrington Village is the limitless
number of interest groups available to residents. Joining the long list,
which includes golfers, painters, cyclists and more, is a new
group - The Fearrington Walkers!
The
program was initiated by a group of residents to encourage everyone to get out and enjoy the beautiful setting and scenic
walking trails the community offers. With dozens of folks
already out walking around the village at any given time in any season, this program is sure to be a success. The $10 membership includes a
pedometer, instruction manual, two logbooks and a Fearrington Trails &
Paths map. The group will report their totals periodically, with a goal
of accumulating a total of 25,000 miles this year!
