Community
Read 2009!
The Friends of the Pittsboro Memorial Library, Inc. and
McIntyre's
Fine Books at Fearrington have joined forces to co-sponsor
"Community Read 2009: Exploring
Our Shared Racial History." We invite you to join us in looking at the
history of the American struggle for racial equality in our county and
the South.
What is a Community Read? Since 1998, communities have
been bringing people together through the reading and discussion of
common books. Today there are statewide, citywide, countywide, and even
country-wide reading programs all over the world. For 2009, we’ve selected two books that promise to help us rethink
our assumptions and learn from one another.
The first book, which will be discussed
on Saturday, March 21st at 11am, is The Help by Katherine Stockett. The
following book, Blood Done Sign My Name by Timothy Tyson,
will also feature an author event later in the year. We are excited that
both Stockett and Tyson have agreed to join us for discussions of these
books. Books will be available for purchase at McIntyre's Books, or can
be checked out from the library. For more
