Meet our wine team

“Wine is about enjoying life, taking time out of the everyday hustle and bustle to look at the world from another perspective, sharing laughs with friends and family and eating good food,” says Wine Director Maximilian Kast. “We want to provide the best wines at the best value in every price range, so that when you make selection at our restaurants or wine shop, you know that the wine is from a unique producer, of high quality, and a great value.”

With an extensive wine list spanning bottles from all over the world, our wine list can be a challenge and that’s when Fearrington’s wine team comes in to be of assistance to our guests. It’s not all glitz and show; there are the behind the scenes work from invoices, to stocking wine, to polishing glassware, because it takes work to put on a great show in the dining room every evening!

At The Goat you’ll find over 100 wine selections handpicked by our wine team to highlight small wineries creating great products at affordable prices. Not sure what pairs well with your dinner? Take a few moments to read our shelf talkers that provide insight into nearly every bottle.

Wine Events
“We try to make each wine event an experience as opposed to your everyday wine tasting,” says Wine Director Maximilian Kast. ” From our Sommelier Competitions (more details coming soon) to beer dinners, and winemaker dinners,there is something for everyone to enjoy. Our monthly classes at The Granary delve into topics ranging from blind tasting to the wines Sicily and Sardegna. We also bring in winemakers, importers, and sommeliers from around the world, who provide different perspectives on the juice of the vine and how it is made and enjoyed for each wine dinner. Hope to see you soon!”

Meet the Team

Maximilian Kast, Wine Director

Max joined The Fearrington House in 2007 as Sommelier, and within a year was promoted to Wine Director with responsibilities for the beverage program for the entire property. He organizes and hosts Fearrington House’s popular wine dinner series. And he also teaches popular and inexpensive wine and beer classes at The Fearrington Granary Restaurant. Chetan Reddy, Sommelier

Before joining the Fearrington team in 2015, Chetan worked in fine dining for many years and was given the opportunity to run the wine/beverage program at the Siena Hotel in Chapel Hill. He also worked at Black House at Straw Valley under master sommelier Fred Dexheimmer and at ONE Restautant. Chetan is a Level 2 certified sommelier.

Colin Williams, Sommelier

After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America in 2013, Colin returned home to NC and accepted a job at The Fearrington House Restaurant as a line cook. After two years, Colin became interested in wine and, under the guidance of Maximilian Kast, began his wine career. After passing his Certified Sommelier course in July of 2015, he became Fearrington’s Assistant Sommelier.
