The Fearrington Community

With nearly 2,000 residents, Fearrington is large enough to offer a diverse range of neighborhoods yet small enough to retain a strong sense of community. Fearrington has steadily grown over 30 years, giving it an established and friendly feel. You'll find Fearrington residents are generous with their time, volunteering for area and community organizations, active in the direction of their community and looking after one another. So what is it that makes living here so enjoyable?

Healthy Living Options. Healthy living opportunities abound at Fearrington. With miles of walking paths, the state of the art Duke Center for Living wellness facility, the residents-only Swim & Croquet Club, tennis courts and a playground, there's plenty of ways to stay fit and healthy. Need inspiration to stay fit? Join the walking or golfing club, and stay focused with friends!

It's incredibly convenient finding fresh, local produce from April to November, when the weekly growers-only Fearrington Farmers Market takes place in the Village Center.

Active Resident Groups. Dozens of resident clubs operate here, offering a wealth of opportunities for newcomers to make new friendships and share common interests and hobbies. Many club activities happen at The Gathering Place.

An important resident organization is the Fearrington Homeowners Association, which promotes the health, safety and welfare of village residents and encourages participation in community endeavors. Hear from the current president of the FHA.

Another important institution is the not-for-profit, Fearrington Cares, which provides a range of short-term health care services to residents under the direction of its caring staff and many volunteers. Read more about this innovative and beloved organization.

During the summer, The Swim & Croquet Club becomes an important recreational and social venue at Fearrington, offering a lap pool, spa center, croquet, classes and activities.

The Village Center. The shops, restaurants and gardens of the Village Center provide opportunities to enjoy time with friends and loved ones. McIntyre's Books, one of the best known independent bookstores in the Southeast, offers over a hundred author events annually; these are free and open to the public (see the events calendar) - and well attended by Fearrington residents!

Our ever-changing gardens, under the expert care of our gardening team, offers a reason to walk through the Village Center to see what's in bloom.

The Fearrington Granary Restaurant, our daytime restaurant, provides delicious lunch and brunch options either indoors or on our patios. Once a month we open up The Fearrington Granary for a special, seasonally themed dinner; our Evenings Out dinner series is quite popular with residents!

Pick up a New York Times, a coffee, sandwich or a glass of wine at The Belted Goat and linger over indoor seating or overlooking the fountain in the adjacent outdoor courtyard. Enjoy a craft beer and live music with friends at our beer garden, Roost.  And with The Fearrington House Restaurant, you never have to leave the property to celebrate special occasions!

Annual Fearrington Events. We host fun events year round, from the Folk Art Show to PumpkinFest to Holiday Storytelling with Donald Davis - all perfect activities for the whole family!

So there's plenty of reasons to stay occupied at Fearrington - and of course there's a wealth of cultural, recreational and social activities in nearby Chapel Hill, Durham and Raleigh.
