 Resident Spotlight: The Laners
While Fearrington Village enjoys a beautiful
setting, convenient
location and
numerous
amenities, what
really makes our community is the people who live
here. We love to hear from our residents about how
they came to Fearrington. We recently had a chance
to ask California transplants Malcolm and Sharon Laner, who just completed
their custom home in
The Knolls, about
how they came to Fearrington:
"Let's see. Was it
the white picket fences, the silo, the Belties or
the wonderful staff that we encountered? It
definitely was all of the above and more.
"When it is time to
retire, you and your friends start putting your
heads together for great ideas. Ours was to meet
friends somewhere in the South to explore the
possibilities. After a website search, Fearrington
seemed to be the place we should rendezvous. Little
did we know that our hearts would be stolen so
quickly. That was 2007.
"Fearrington Village
haunted us for three years. We traveled through
Arizona, Florida, Nevada and Northern California
looking. Finally, in 2010, we and our friends from
Ohio revisited Fearrington. Eureka! Yes, we did in
fact love what we had found. We found the perfect
house on the perfect lot in the perfect
neighborhood, but we returned to the San Francisco
Bay Area to test ourselves again. Less than a month
later, we were back at Fearrington for one last
look.
"The second trip was
to reassure ourselves. Reality check for living in
that perfect house. Working with the Fitch Creation
staff, revisiting many of the existing homes, we
chose a lot in The Knolls Close. We returned to
Northern California to sell our home of thirty
years. Ten months later, we began the building of
our new home.
"The real bonus for
us has been the professional, friendly working
relationship we have encountered. Whether it was Mr.
Fitch or Bobby readying our home for the final walk
through, we could not have asked for anything more.

unmatched anywhere. From clearing the lot to the
last lick of paint, you are met with confidence and
professionalism.
"The community is the
great ending to the moving in experience. People
from all corners of this country have chosen

dedicated to making your new house a home."
