Chatham County Opens A New Park
The exciting new
Northeast District Park in our
surrounding Chatham County is now
officially open to the community! The recently
completed first phase of the park offers a walking trail,
baseball field, large multipurpose field for sports
like soccer,
football, etc., tennis courts, a playground, picnic
shelter, concession building and restrooms. This new
addition to our area's recreation options
is located at 5408 Big Woods Road, just west of
Jordan Lake. Find more information and details about
the new park
here.
Funding for the project came from several sources,
including Chatham County, the state's Parks and
Recreation Trust Fund, and various grants and
donations. The Arthur Carlsen Fund of the Triangle
Community Foundation provided $80,000 to build the
park's tennis courts in honor of the founder's love
of tennis and this area. Carlsen and his wife
Alice were longtime residents of Fearrington
Village, where their charitable contributions also
continue to support the
Fearrington Cares volunteer
organization.
