Jessica & Ben

Jessica and Ben tied the knot on May 18th, 2014. They held their ceremony at Fearrington’s Crab Apple Trees and celebrated their “I dos” in The Garden Terrace!

How did y’all meet?

Ben and I met as undergraduates at Duke University. We had attended a speaking event and struck up a conversation on the way back to campus. I was interested in Ben right away, but he was probably more interested in the substance of our conversation at the time. We decided to meet again to talk; our talks turned into dates; and our dates turned into a lasting relationship.

Tell us about the engagement?

We had decided to visit Ben’s family over the Christmas holiday. On Christmas day, Ben asked me to open a large box before the rest of his family arrived to open presents. Inside the box was another box, then another box, then another box. Ten boxes later, I opened the final box, which contained a beautiful ring. Ben had been kneeling the entire time, but I had not noticed it until that moment. He took my had and asked me to marry him. When Ben’s family arrived, we celebrated together.

What made Fearrington the place for you to say “I do?”

We wanted our wedding to have Southern charm with hints of the sophisticated cities we have lived in since leaving North Carolina. One of our first dates as a couple was dinner at the Fearrington House Restaurant, and the Fearrington immediately came to mind as a potential wedding venue. We loved the atmosphere and Southern hospitality we encountered when we visited the Fearrington, and we knew the delicious food would amaze and satisfy our out of town guests.

Describe one of the highlight moments of your wedding day.

There were so many great moments during our wedding, it is difficult to pick one. We had been told before the wedding to make sure to pause and take a moment to reflect on the day because there are so many family and friends that you want to talk to that you can forget to spend any time alone with each other. So about halfway through the reception, Ben and I made a point of sneaking off to quiet corner of the terrace. We held hands as we watched the people we love dance and enjoy each other’s company. It was a special moment for the two of us. We agreed it was a great party, and then we got back to enjoying it real time.

Anything you want to add about your wedding story?

Especially because we were planning our wedding from out of state, we wanted to select a venue that would help us throughout the wedding planning process. We knew The Fearrington House had an excellent reputation, but the ease of the process and the friendly staff we worked with along the way continually exceeded our expectations. We are so thankful for the wonderful memories we made on our wedding day!

This wedding was designed and coordinated by Fearrington’s own Gilda McDaniel.
