2012 Wine Maker Dinners:
Winter-Spring
Sunday, February 19th: Battle
of the Sommeliers Dinner
Join us for a night of great food, great wine, and great fun as two
good friends, Fearrington House's Maximilian Kast and On the
Square's Inez Ribustello battle to the last drop of your gustatory
delight. Inez and her husband are owners of On the Square Restaurant
in Tarboro, recently voted, along with the Fearrington House, as one
of the top 50 restaurants in the country by OpenTable. Inez was the
Wine Director at the famous Windows on the World in New York before
settling back to her hometown of Tarboro. She also took second place
in the Best Sommelier in the United States Competition and was a
national finalist in the first TopSomm competition. The night will
begin with signature cocktails from each sommelier, then over a five
course dinner two wines will be paired for each course, at the end
all guests will get to vote for the pairings enjoyed the most,
determining the Best Sommelier for the evening.
Sunday, March 11th: Fiddlehead Cellars Dinner
Fiddlehead Cellars was founded in California by Kathy Joseph to
"capture the pure essence" of her two favorite varietals; Pinot Noir
and Sauvignon Blanc. Her quest has lead her to her twentieth
vintage, producing terroir-driven sauvignon Blanc from the
eastern-end of the Santa Ynez Valley and Pinot Noir from the Santa
Rita Hills. Fiddlehead produces about 5,000 cases a year, allowing
for great attention and care to each wine. Kathy's wines are elegant
and full of character and are great fun to pair with food.
Sunday, March 25th: When France Meets The South (1pm to 4pm)
Renowned wine importer Thomas Meunier returns to Fearrington to
join Wine Director Maximilian Kast for a one of a kind food and wine
event on The Garden Terrace at the Fearrington House! Chef Colin
Bedford is preparing an oyster roast to remember and we have invited
six winemakers from all over France to join us. Such winemakers as
Coarlie Goumarre from Domaine Galevan in the Rhone Valley, Joseph
Landron from Domaine de la Louvetrie in Muscadet, Lionel Latorse
from Clos Saint Vincent and Chateau Gabaron in Saint Emillion and
Emmanuel Rybinski from Clos Troteligotte in Cahors, and more will be
in attendance for a fantastic afternoon of wine tasting and oyster
shucking. Those is a great opportunity to meet some truly amazing
winemakers from small family-owned estates.
Thursday, April 26th: Lioco Winery Dinner
Started by Matt Licklider (a seasoned wine import specialist)
and Kevin O'Conner (former wine Director at Spago-Beverley Hills),
Lioco is a winery that focuses on making world-class, terroir driven
Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from some of the best vineyard sites in
California. The goal: to make Californian wines that speak of the
place from which they come. Hanzell, Michaud, Durell, and Hirsch
vineyards are just some of the famous sites from which they source
their grapes. The winemaking is done in the "least intrusive way
possible" in order to let the wines speak from their vineyards.
