Fearrington’s award-winning gardens meld the informal and unaffected qualities of Fearrington’s farm heritage with the charming, romantic landscape details Jenny and R.B. Fitch enjoyed during their travels through the European countryside.
Our black and white belted cows are Belted Galloways, a rare breed of Scottish beef cattle that was introduced to the United States back in the 1950s. In the early 1980s, RB Fitch brought a herd of six Belties from Virginia to Fearrington. There are now over thirty Belties grazing our rolling pastures. The Belties’ sole purpose is to greet village guests and coax a smile or two.
For two centuries, the Fearrington farm has dotted the landscape between Pittsboro and Chapel Hill, NC. The farm, now a village at the core of which are shops, restaurants, a spa and an inn, is still adorned with farm animals, the dairy barn and silo, and other farm structures.
