For two centuries, the Fearrington farm has dotted the landscape between Pittsboro and Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The farm, now a vibrant village consisting of shops, restaurants and a country inn, still features rolling pastures, farm animals, the dairy barn and silo, and other farm structures. Several of these original buildings have been re-adapted and now form the heart of the Village Center.
Today the farm continues to be an important part of our business. Hay from our fields feeds our farm animals, the pastures provide safe shelter for our Belted Galloway cows, and gardens and a greenhouse behind the Fearrington House Restaurant provide fruits, vegetables and herbs used in its cuisine. We also purchase fresh produce from area farms, either directly or through the Fearrington Farmers Market, held weekly in the Village Center, April through Thanksgiving.
Since 1982, Belted Galloway cows have roamed the pastures surrounding the Village Center. Also known as “oreo cows”, our Belties consistently bring home local and national awards in their category. Other farm animals at Fearrington include a herd of black and white Tennessee Fainting goats and a family of protective donkeys.
The Farm is the perfect place to bring family and friends for a fun day out. While you’re here, tour the beautiful gardens, stop at The Goat for ice cream, pick up your own plush Beltie and visit our boutique shops.
