We are absolutely thrilled to announce a Canal House Cooks & Books Lunch at Fearrington with authors Christopher Hirsheimer and Melissa Hamilton, introduced by their friend and former colleague from Saveur, Chapel Hill’s Kelly Alexander.
Winner of Best Cookbook at the 2013 James Beard Awards this month, Canal House Cooks Everyday offers 250 recipes. “The Big Red Book,” as it is often called, is just one among the many Hirsheimer-Hamilton, highly collectible — and cook-worthy — Canal House books. Notable, too, because they are beautifully printed and cloth-bound, the Canal House Cooking series will be on hand for you to see, but we’ll have a copy of their latest, award-winning gorgeous cookbook for everyone attending.

Gather with us at 1pm at the Fearrington Granary in the light-filled upstairs room for a Books & Cooks lunch, where we’ll be tasting and talking about all things Canal House, which means, such topics as storing stock, weight versus volume, fearless frying, fortified wine, sugars, beautiful aprons, and food savers. This is a lunch as you can see for learning from seasoned pros while enjoying a terrific meal and perusing your copy of their cookbook.

Don’t miss this event, as it is the final Books & Cooks event of our winter-to-spring season! Cooks & Books is a collaboration of Keebe Fitch at McIntyre’s Books and Chef Colin Bedford at Fearrington House, and we’ve had a great time with our diverse events kicking off 2013 with Rebecca Lang (Around the Southern Table), then to Nathalie Dupree (The Art of Southern Cooking), then onto Deb Perelman (Smitten Kitchen), then to Nancie McDermott (Real Thai), then to Thomas Keller (Bouchon Bakery, etc.) and Edward Lee (Smoke & Pickles). Quite a list of culinary experts, huh? Hope to see you there!
