We are so excited David Tanis will be here to kick off our Cooks & Books fall mini season on Thursday, October 24th at 1pm. In One Good Dish, his first non-menu cookbook, the New York Times food columnist offers 100 utterly delicious recipes that epitomize comfort food, Tanis-style. Individually or in combination, they make perfect little meals that are elemental and accessible, yet totally surprising—and there’s something to learn on every page. As a chef at Chez Panisse for almost 20 years, he certainly knows his way around the kitchen. This cookbook is chock full of things I want to make in my kitchen: swiss chard al forno, polentina alla Toscana, quick scallion kimchee, ham & gruyere bread pudding, or perhaps longer cooked kale, please.
In an interview this week with the Raleigh N&O’s Andrea Weigl, Tanis said, “Maybe you don’t have time to cook that three-course meal, but you certainly have time to cook one good dish and save yourself from the horrors of fast food and takeout. I think there’s something really appealing about this book. It doesn’t feel challenging. It feels like it’s going to be good. But it doesn’t feel like, ‘Oh no. I have to gear up for a day in the kitchen to produce this meal.’”
