As with all parts of life these days, the world of wine keeps getting smaller. Multi-national wine corporations, increasingly excellent independent importers, technology and food and wine media all work to bring millions of people together in the name of wine. This, however, does not mean the distance from country to country is any closer, or the effort to make wines that express a sense of place and have personality is any easier. Yes, no matter how small the world of wine gets one thing will never change: making wine is farming and art. Farming takes hard work, ingenuity and passion. Art takes creativity and the ability to seek new ways. The combination is dedication. Thus it is all the more meaningful when those who are parts of that creation or idea, travel around the world to show their dedication for wine and share it with the world.
On Sunday July 26th we will host James Dare, Director of Marketing for Warwick Winery situated in Stellenbosch, South Africa. The Warwick winery takes its name from a general in Boar War who first planted the land. The Farm (as Wineries are called in South Africa) was purchased by Stan and Norma Ratcliffe in 1964. Norma took on the role as winemaker and now shares these responsibilities with her son. The Warwick label produces some of the best Southern Hemisphere wines, with their Warwick Reserve (Cabernet Sauvignon Blend) being one of the most highly sought after and acclaimed red wine in this category. James will bring the “Farm” to us and we will be able to enjoy a wine reception and a light tasting dinner.
On Sunday August 30th we will be hosting Iduna Weinert from Bodega Y Cavas de Weinert in Mendoza Argentina. More on this very special dinner later!
Both dinners will be $110.00 dollars a guest excluding tax and gratuity. We invite you to join us and have the vineyards of South Africa and Argentina come to you and bring to life the story behind the wine in your glass.
Until then, Prost!
