The Fearrington Granary Gallery has some truly fascinating new art on its walls! You'll be mesmerized and completely entertained by the latest work of self-taught artist Bart Schultz, well known to attendees of past few Fearrington Folk Art Shows. Here he has installed 26 intricate masking tape portraits, each inspired by Edward Gorey's tale The Gashlycrumb Tinies, first published in 1963. In the book, Gorey tells the tale of 26 children - each representing a letter of the alphabet - who meet their untimely deaths in different ways.
Join us in The Fearrington Granary Gallery from 6pm-9pm on Thursday November 11th for an evening of ghoulish Gorey delights as we revel in these masterpieces. Each piece will be put up for silent auction with Schultz generously donating all proceeds to the Chatham County Literacy Council. The Chatham County Community Players will be on hand with performances based on the book and Bart Schultz will be available to take commissions for your very own personalized masking tape letter sculpture, ready in time for the holidays! Tickets to the event are $10 in advance, $15 at the door, and are available online or purchase them in person at McIntyre’s Books in Fearrington Village.
To view the portraits, visit The Fearrington Granary Restaurant; open Tuesday through Saturday from 11:30am – 2pm, Sunday 10am – 2pm.
