Second Year of the Winter Coffee Pecan Porter

When the temperature drops there are a few things that become necessities: scarves, hats, mittens, wool socks and my morning cup of coffee. The way a warm cup of coffee warms me up and awakens my senses prepares me for the activities of the day. Throughout the year, Fearrington Village is enveloped in that same aroma of freshly roasted coffee. In the winter the aroma is more powerful and even more welcoming. When I sense that smell I know our coffee roaster Julian Vargas is busy at work at... Full Post >

Wine for the Wintertime

As I'm sure you've noticed, it's a tad chilly out. A little wine can do wonders in helping to pass the time, anxiously awaiting the chance sighting of a little wintry precipitation. I mean, if its going to be this cold, we better get some snow out of it! Here are three cool bottles that we have featured and on display here at The Goat to help warm the spirits this Winter. DOMAINE DANIEL ET ETIENNE DEFAIX | CHABLIS:  Ridiculously rich, full bodied, concentrated yellow melon,... Full Post >

Littorai: Above the Best, In a World of Its Own

Let's just say it, there are a lot of wineries that claim that they are the best (in their region, of all producers, of a certain grape varietal, etc). The idea of "the best" is, as I think we can all agree, largely subjective. Now, when we talk of a wine which is in and of itself completely different than anything else, I think that the classification "the best" no longer does that wine justice. How can you compare a wine so unique to others? When I speak about the wines of Ted Lemon from his... Full Post >

Wine for New Years

New Year's Eve means bubbles, conversation, and committing to resolutions that probably won't last more than a week. While I can't help you with your yearly goals, or give you any hot topics for conversation, I can help you pick out a nice bottle of sparkling wine that might make the aforementioned tasks a little easier to bear. Everything in life goes better with Champagne, and at the Goat we've made sure that there's plenty of Duval-Leroy Brut Champagne to be had.  If your tastes are... Full Post >

The Perfect Final Touch

We asked Fearrington's Wine Director Maxmilian Kast if there was one wine he thought encompassed the holidays, and he had so many favorites he said it might take him until next Christmas to choose! He did decide on Domaine Tempier Bandol Rouge Cuvée Classic. "A wine that encompasses the holidays would be Domaine Tempier Bandol Rouge Cuvée Classic. It was one of the first wines I bought for Christmas in my early years as a Sommelier, and the scents and flavors of that wine from my... Full Post >

Wine for “Santa”

Santa's been working hard all year, makings his lists, checking them twice, and getting patent rights issues ironed out so his elves can make the new MacBook Air in time for Christmas. All jokes aside, Santa's pretty bored with the same old milk to go with his cookies. Why not spice it up and give Santa something he'll really enjoy, wine! Vin Santo and biscotti is a pretty neat Italian combination, or ginger cookies and a late harvest Alsatian Gewurztraminer for another original flavor... Full Post >

Beer for the Holidays

We were very excited to share a favorite beer from Fearrington's Wine Director Maximilian Kast, the Corsendonk Christmas Ale! This beer is perfect for relaxing after a day of holiday shopping or to share with family over dinner. Here's what Maximilian Kast shared about this holiday delight: "Corsendonk Christmas Ale is a Belgian Dark Strong Ale made in a similar fashion as a Trappist Dubbel style. It has aromas of Prune, Raisin, Fig, and Floral notes as well, it is full-bodied and rich... Full Post >
