The Fearrington House Inn

Spread out over the picturesque village, each of The Fearrington House Inn's 32 rooms and suites has a distinct design and character, yet all are outfitted with luxe touches such as original Southern artwork, fresh flowers, a complimentary mini-bar, and other outstanding amenities like a decanter of port placed by your bedside at turndown.

Meet Rashaad Davis

Writing about Rashaad Davis is like looking back on a kind of Fearrington Village family tree. Rashaad and I came to Fearrington at about the same time; we both started out at what was then the Market Café (now the Granary Restaurant).  We were barely more than children and that was 20 years ago. Hard to imagine he has been here that long, but Rashaad, like many of us here, has family history at this place. As a child he would visit the Village with his uncle, then the head chef at the... A Gingerbread House for the Ages

Recently, we had the privilege of being a part of the 11th annual Gingerbread Benefit held at The Umstead Hotel in Cary. This event is opened to the public and designed to raise money for Triangle Family Services. The nonprofit organization supports families in our community through financial counseling, housing assistance, heath treatments, and counseling for individuals of domestic violence. Each year, dozens of talented bakeries and restaurants volunteer to build gingerbread houses that are... Full Post >

Trimming the Tree

Fearrington's ever ingenious gardeners used a brief period of downtime to transform the large Christmas tree in the heart of the Village Center. You'll now find it decorated with bright orange clementines wrapped in raffia, berry cuttings from nandinas and hollies wrapped in ribbon remnants, pine cones rolled in paint and glitter and more. Very clever - and biodegradable too! Full Post >

Dressing Flower Buckets for the Season

For winter, we fill our galvanized French flower buckets by the Fearrington House Inn entrance with cheerful small pansies and hardy ivies with very finely cut leaves. This year, we planted multi-hued Pandora’s Box pansies; they are just awash in pastel-toned blooms combining all the radiant shades of a tropical sunrise and are the showiest to come along in quite a while! And we accent with an occasional Penny Primrose Bicolor or Penny Orchid viola. Full Post >

Meet Ken Henderson

This is Ken. He may look like a mild-mannered man about town, but he is, in fact, a super hero. He is one of the guys who holds the Village together. And I'm not talking in the figurative sense here. I'm talking about a real tube of glue, hammer, or whatever tool it takes to keep this place running. Ken has been with Fearrington for 22 years now (he must have been a wee babe when he started working here). He started in construction, and after years of making certain all the final details in... Return of the Whirligigs

We are very fortunate to have four very large whirligigs made by the late, great folk artist Vollis Simpson of Lucama, NC. Vollis was always very concerned to know that we were taking good care of his whirligigs, making especially certain that they were properly greased.  Vollis passed away this summer at the age of 94, but his artwork will live on for many years in his honor thanks to the great care of fellow folk artist Riley Foster. Riley is a metal worker extraordinaire who has spent... Full Post >
