At McIntyre's Books, Fearrington Events, Real Estate Happenings
A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of attending the Thai New Year Dinner at The Granary, one of the Cooks and Books events sponsored by McIntyre’s Books. The author of Real Thai, Nancie McDermott, spoke about her books, her life and her passion for food, as well as, her wonderful insight into Thai cooking, Thai culture and Thai people -– and even a bit of Southeast Asia’s geography and history. Colin Bedford and his team outdid themselves with 10 different Thai dishes, from... Full Post >

Some days are just perfect. Beautiful weather. Birds singing. Bright blue skies. Who could pass up the chance for a walk along the Creekwood trails on a day like this? I lace up my sneakers, step out my back door, and set out for a walk through the woods. But wait! What's this? Sweet little birds hanging from a branch. No, not one of the robins or cardinals that seem to be everywhere this morning, but little crocheted tweets in a rainbow of colors. A few more steps down the trail and there is a... Full Post >
Yesterday, on one of the most perfect days of the year, we had the pleasure of attending a reading in the Barn. The “Fearrington Friends of the Arts” group (one of over 100 interest groups for Fearrington residents) hosted Sarah Susanka, author and architect best known for her “Not So Big" message. It was a great turn out of both residents and local community. During her reading, she spoke about designing a house so it is a home, making it a space personal to you and designing it so it... Spring is a season full of color and new life, but my favorite Spring surprise is black and white and adorable all over -- a new baby beltie born on Easter! He doesn't have a name quite yet, but that doesn't make his any less special. Fearrington celebrates every new beltie and we cannot wait to watch him frolic around the front pasture. Come by and visit! Full Post >

Jon Condoret our longtime architect passed away in 2010 but his legacy endures in this beautiful article in Chapel Hill Magazine. Jon designed almost every house at Fearrington and also the ‘new’ structures in the Village Center like the Inn Building and McIntyre’s. French by birth, Jon brought a fresh sensibility to his craft including an embrace of Carolina sunlight. Current architect Brian Cather had the opportunity to work briefly with Jon and when we met Brian we marveled that he... Full Post >

Eight months out of the year, I can’t see my neighbor’s house from my kitchen window. But from late November when the leaves drop, until late March when Spring growth explodes, my neighbor’s house is visible through the trees. As I was putting away my coffee mug this morning, it dawned on me that no matter what time of year it is, I know my neighbors are there. Not in an invasive sort of way, but more as a comfort – to borrow a lime, to keep a spare key, or just to wave at in... Full Post >
