The Newest Home Building Trends

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas – not this time! This year’s International Home Builder's Show was combined with the Industry’s Kitchen and Bath show and the combination made for an exciting and educational experience. It was great to see what styles will be hot this year -- think gray! We saw all the new appliances, faucets, counter tops, and the list goes on and on. The wood-look porcelain tile was one of the best new products we saw. Often a big design dilemma for folks... Full Post >

Rutherford is Shaping Up

The Certain Teed cedar shake polymer exterior is finally far enough along at Rutherford Close to get a real feel for the end result (it’s a new color so we’ve been anxiously waiting) and, it’s awesome! The soft gray has a lot of depth which offsets the white trim perfectly. It’s not quite finished, but if you haven’t driven by yet, put it on your next outing and see for yourself! Full Post >

Down to the Final Touches

Our first home in Rutherford Close is moving closer to completion! Sheetrock and trim are up and painted, and the kitchen and bathroom cabinetry has been installed. Our first Rutherford Close home should be finished within the next few weeks. This unit has beautiful views of rolling Beltie pastures. Call us to schedule a look! Full Post >

Window Shopping

During the summer, RB and I decided it was time to do some window shopping for our new houses. I set up a few appointments with vendors, the first one being with Atrium Windows. Atrium Windows started over 60 years ago in North Carolina and their regional office is in Welcome, NC. We were impressed with the quality (still tilt- wash and low e) and with the emphasis on customer service. Each individual window has its own identification code label on the window. If someone calls in with a... Full Post >

The Last Camden

It is bittersweet to see the last house come to completion in South Camden. Since the first house went up in the 1990s, Camden is one of our most popular neighborhoods and it is so convenient to the Village Center and Camden Park. While it is sad to complete the Camden neighborhood, 4016 Macon is a wonderful house to end with! The house combines an open floorplan and a formal dining room and a third bedroom that would make a nice study. We also put some of our favorite cabinets in both the... Full Post >

Rutherford Walk Through

The first Rutherford Close homes have been framed and sheathed! This morning was the perfect time to walk through the homes to do collective troubleshooting and tweaking for the next Rutherford homes. Walking through a space is always a different experience from seeing it on paper, and the walk through always yields improvements, whether its a better place to put the air return or a way to configure a closet for more hanging space. First House Rises at Rutherford Close

Who doesn't love the smell of new construction! Exciting too for us after years of planning is seeing this inaugural home in our newest neighborhood, Rutherford Close, come to life. Here you're looking from the front living room through the framing and - hard to see - past large windows to an amazing pasture view. Full Post >

First Home Underway at Rutherford Close

The road is done, the heavy grading machinery are gone, the banks are seeded, and we are starting our first home at Rutherford Close! The footings went in last week. In the picture, you'll see the walking path abutting Rutherford Close that weaves through pastures, trees and park to the shops, restaurants, cafe and beer garden of Fearrington's Village Center. All just a quarter mile away! Full Post >

Kayaking In Our Backyard

In under 20 minutes from leaving Fearrington Minerva and I were in our new (used) kayaks paddling in a beautiful cove on Jordan lake. Within 5 minutes, we had spotted three Osprey, one mature Bald Eagle and several Great Blue Herons. Whether you enjoy sailing, kayaking, trail walking, fishing or swimming, this State Park is right in our backyard – take advantage of it! Full Post >
