Ancient Southern Secret

Old Southern Tradition – who knew?! I was recently introduced to an old Southern wedding tradition that I think will come in handy throughout the wedding season. I am told that if you bury a bottle of bourbon at the site of your wedding it guarantees that it will not rain on your wedding day.  Added bonus is that you have a bottle of bourbon in the end! I think this is a fine practice.  Fearrington Brides –- please take note!  It can’t hurt! Full Post >

50 Years Just Married!

There is nothing sweeter than seeing a couple that has been married for 50 years, who are still as in love as the day they met! This past Saturday, the Moellering siblings reinvented their parents wedding that took place 50 years ago. Everything was as it was on their wedding day, cake, flowers and even 50 notes for every year they have spent together. Here's to many happy years together and more to come! Full Post >

Fall Scarves as Favors

We loved Paige and Jeff's plaid scarves they handed out to guests as favors at their wedding. The scarves came in three different colors and were a great touch to a fall wedding -- a perfect way to keep warm with an evening chill. The couple even wore their a matching pair for their introduction to the reception as the new Mr. and Mrs. Wilber! Full Post >

New at Dovecote: Gentlemen’s Collection

My favorite new stop on my wedding tour of Fearrington is the brand new men’s collection at Dovecote.  We’ve been spending a lot of time in that corner lately...who says men don’t like to shop?! Dovecote has a fine new stock of Collared Greens ties and cumberbunds that I think are the perfect fun, stylish new option for groomsmen for Fearrington’s outdoor weddings. They have fabulous colors in stripes and polka dots that would go with any bride’s choice of wedding colors.  You... Full Post >

Autumn Bouquets from the Gardens

Our ever talented Floral Designer Mary Stevens made the most gorgeous fall, garden bouquets for one of our brides this past weekend. Mary and her team used greenery and herbs from the gardens at Fearrington and combined it with beautiful fall flowers and fiddle head ferns. The bouquets were fun and colorful and just perfect for an early fall wedding in the Gardens. We have such an amazing floral design team -- see more of their work here!   Full Post >

Kelly and Noah’s Friday the 13th Wedding!

When I first met this fun-loving couple I knew they would have a great wedding! Kelly and Noah chose to get married on Friday the 13th -- bad luck some would say, but I think not! They had a gorgeous fall day with perfect weather. They said their "I Do's"  in the gardens with our Herb Garden as the backdrop. The nuptials were followed by a cocktail hour and BBQ style dinner under the Oak trees at the Garden Terrace. A Beautiful day for a gorgeous couple! I wish you only the best Mr. and... Full Post >

They say it takes a village…

I am so glad that John Oliver is part of our team! Actually, Reverend Dr. John Oliver is officially the Chief of Chaplains at the VA Medical Center in Durham, but we often get to borrow him on weekends!  We have been extremely lucky to have him perform many weddings here over the years. I have never recommended John to a couple who did not love working with him. You can tell by the smiles on Zara and Robert’s faces during their rehearsal that they have found the right person to marry... Full Post >

Self Seeding Annuals

If you walk behind the Inn Building you’ll notice a large flowering plant the size of a shrub – an African foxglove - that may seem a bit ‘out of place’ with the formal gardens around it. We've kept African foxgloves (Ceratotheca triloba) in cultivation ever since finding them growing in the gravel behind our beer garden Roost (they probably escaped from a container). They are native to South Africa but are not related to foxgloves (Digitalis spp.) Here they behave as self-sowing... Full Post >
