Autumn Bouquets from the Gardens

Our ever talented Floral Designer Mary Stevens made the most gorgeous fall, garden bouquets for one of our brides this past weekend. Mary and her team used greenery and herbs from the gardens at Fearrington and combined it with beautiful fall flowers and fiddle head ferns. The bouquets were fun and colorful and just perfect for an early fall wedding in the Gardens. We have such an amazing floral design team -- see more of their work here!   Full Post >

Kelly and Noah’s Friday the 13th Wedding!

When I first met this fun-loving couple I knew they would have a great wedding! Kelly and Noah chose to get married on Friday the 13th -- bad luck some would say, but I think not! They had a gorgeous fall day with perfect weather. They said their "I Do's"  in the gardens with our Herb Garden as the backdrop. The nuptials were followed by a cocktail hour and BBQ style dinner under the Oak trees at the Garden Terrace. A Beautiful day for a gorgeous couple! I wish you only the best Mr. and... Full Post >

They say it takes a village…

I am so glad that John Oliver is part of our team! Actually, Reverend Dr. John Oliver is officially the Chief of Chaplains at the VA Medical Center in Durham, but we often get to borrow him on weekends!  We have been extremely lucky to have him perform many weddings here over the years. I have never recommended John to a couple who did not love working with him. You can tell by the smiles on Zara and Robert’s faces during their rehearsal that they have found the right person to marry... Full Post >

Self Seeding Annuals

If you walk behind the Inn Building you’ll notice a large flowering plant the size of a shrub – an African foxglove - that may seem a bit ‘out of place’ with the formal gardens around it. We've kept African foxgloves (Ceratotheca triloba) in cultivation ever since finding them growing in the gravel behind our beer garden Roost (they probably escaped from a container). They are native to South Africa but are not related to foxgloves (Digitalis spp.) Here they behave as self-sowing... Full Post >

Holland, deel een (part one!)

One of the best parts of traveling to Holland was meeting a friend along the way. Jennifer and I have been chatting on the phone for years (and years, and years). She's my Dutch flower vendor. And she's been a part of my life for as long as I've been at Fearrington. And up until July, I had never laid eyes on her! When I told her that R.B. was arranging for me to see the Dutch auction, her immediate response was "Don't think you're going without me!" She was such a great hostess and... Full Post >

World’s Largest Flower Auction = Holland

I may have mentioned that I love my job. Case in point... one day Mr. R.B. Fitch says to me "Have you ever been to Holland?" Nope, I hadn't. "Well, lets think about that." Ok! And so it was planned! I was supposed to go last fall, but not-so-Superstorm Sandy put an end to that. All's well that ends well, though! With help from Fearrington's General Manager Theresa, the trip was re-scheduled and I was able to spend five days in Holland at the beginning of July. The weather was perfect... Full Post >

Introducing Mr and Mrs…

The bride and groom’s introduction is one of the key details of the wedding reception. It gives you an idea of how the whole evening will unfold. We've seen choreographed dances, props, and even a simple wave, but recently at a Fearrington wedding we had a more unique entrance approach by the couple. They rode in on a beautiful tandem bike adorned with flowers and a basket that read newlyweds. We love our creative brides! Full Post >
