Double Vision

The ambiguity of a sophisticated farm is the source of inspiration that led painters Brenda Behr and Robert Rigsby to capture Fearrington in a series of oil paintings. The artists share a studio in downtown Goldsboro, North Carolina. Problem is, they’re never there. They also share a love of plein air painting. Started in France by the group best known as the Impressionists, plein air is French for open air. In the mid-nineteenth century, new technology introduced a means by which paint could... Working, Living and Playing at Fearrington

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of attending the Thai New Year Dinner at The Granary, one of the Cooks and Books events sponsored by McIntyre’s Books.  The author of Real Thai, Nancie McDermott, spoke about her books, her life and her passion for food, as well as, her wonderful insight into Thai cooking, Thai culture and Thai people -– and even a bit of Southeast Asia’s geography and history.  Colin Bedford and his team outdid themselves with 10 different Thai dishes, from... Looking from a distance to up close and personal….

I always enjoy going home, however my most recent trip was special, not only did I get to see my parents, I had the opportunity to cook with chefs that I have followed and admired for many years. The trip began as I met my parents at the airport and we made the trip into London together. With Mum hammering me questions one after the other, my Dad and Mum’s proud smiles as my name was announced on TV and the best “Fish & Chips” ever at Borough Market, my arrival was a... Full Post >

Knit Blitz!

Some days are just perfect. Beautiful weather. Birds singing. Bright blue skies. Who could pass up the chance for a walk along the Creekwood trails on a day like this? I lace up my sneakers, step out my back door, and set out for a walk through the woods. But wait! What's this? Sweet little birds hanging from a branch. No, not one of the robins or cardinals that seem to be everywhere this morning, but little crocheted tweets in a rainbow of colors. A few more steps down the trail and there is a... Full Post >

One of the most exciting things about introducing the new Goat (now a deli, coffee shop and wine bar), is that we have had the pleasure of welcoming Xavyer Burroughs to the Fearrington Team.  Xavyer has worked and studied under Inez Ribustello at her and her husband Steven's fantastic Tarboro restaurant, On the Square. Risbustello is the former Wine Director for Windows on the World in New York and American Sommelier Society's third place winner for "Best Sommelier in the United States" in... Full Post >
