Wood-Fired Pizza is Here!

The first time we talked about pizza we were in Atlanta at a pizza joint called Antique pizzeria. I knew this would be the perfect addition to Roost…what could go better with beer and live music than wood-fired pizzas? When people think about chefs, they think we can do everything, but pizza isn’t really in the realm of what “I do.” It’s new to me. I did a massive amount of research and then I started experimenting. From the sauce to the dough to the toppings, I wanted it all to be... Full Post >

Blue Birds, Wobblers & Owls, Oh My!

Blue skies and 68 degrees – we could have not asked for better weather on our 7:30am bird walk this past Saturday. Around 20 folks joined and while most of us were novice bird watchers, we looked like the real thing with binoculars and sun hats – perhaps my large cup of coffee from The Goat gave us away!  Not sure what was the best part, seeing a migrating Red Start Wobbler (cute little orange guy) or walking around the beautiful gardens or Fearrington with a bunch of other folks who... Keeping a Mother’s Day Tradition Alive

Flowers and Mother's Day are almost a foregone conclusion, but keeping the tradition alive doesn't have to mean supermarket roses or dyed carnations. Local Farmer's Markets are exploding with floral beauty at this time of year, and putting together something as special as Mom is can be as simple as purchasing a few spectacular blooms, augmenting with fresh greenery from your own garden, and wrapping the stems with a bit of fabric ribbon to make the perfect tussie-mussie! Our local farmers show up every week, rain or shine, beside the Fitch Creation Sales Office to provide fresh produce, meat and treats for residents and neighbors. See you this afternoon! What's at Market this... Full Post >

Grow Your Best Tomato Crop Ever

If you garden, you’re undoubtedly excited that our average frost date has passed - timed with taxes, why is that? - and you can safely start installing those summer crop seedlings in your backyard garden. Like many Americans, you’ll probably be growing at least several types of tomatoes, because after all nothing packs as much flavor as eating a ripened tomato off the vine, can be served in so many different ways and is hefty enough to be the mainstay of a meal. How to have better... Full Post >

Meet John Westmoreland

Have you heard the lovely music at The Fearrington Granary at dinnertime? John Westmoreland is the talented Chatham County artist who is playing jazz and classical music at The Granary on Monday & Tuesday evenings. We are excited to share a little more about Westmoreland and his love of music! What prompted your love of music? Honestly, I would say my love of music feels innate to my soul, but I was also lucky to grow up in a very musical environment. My father comes from a family... Full Post >

Littorai: Above the Best, In a World of Its Own

Let's just say it, there are a lot of wineries that claim that they are the best (in their region, of all producers, of a certain grape varietal, etc). The idea of "the best" is, as I think we can all agree, largely subjective. Now, when we talk of a wine which is in and of itself completely different than anything else, I think that the classification "the best" no longer does that wine justice. How can you compare a wine so unique to others? When I speak about the wines of Ted Lemon from his... Full Post >

Giving Back with Gingerbread

For the 12th annual gingerbread benefit for Triangle Family Services, Fearrington's pastry chefs crafted a miniature replica of The Fearrington House Restaurant, made entirely of gingerbread course! This beautifully detailed sweet creation placed third in the contest and helped raise money that will assist local families in crisis. So, how do you build a farmhouse of gingerbread? First measure and make a plan. Then bake up all of the pieces. Yes, shutters, doors, columns, shingles... Full Post >
