Join Fearrington Village’s casual dining restaurant, The Fearrington Granary, located near Chapel Hill, NC.

A sous chef reports directly to the Executive Chef but has some authority over the other kitchen staff.  A sous chef should be a strong leader as well as a team player and have the ability to communicate with the staff. Responsibilities include:

  1. Ensures food is of top quality and is mindful of portions and cost
  2. Is able to assist with menu planning
  3. Is Responsible for inventory, ordering and managing supplies including coding invoices
  4. Ensures safety and sanitation rules including proper storage
  5. Hire, train, develop, coach and counsel staff
  6. Make schedules, ensure timecards are correct

In the Granary’s kitchen

Qualifications include:

  • Basic understanding of professional cooking, knife handling, kitchen safety and sanitation practices and food handling
  • Ability to take direction, work in a team environment and work calmly and effectively under pressure
  • Committed to quality service
  • Possess knowledge all styles of cooking

  • Is intimately familiar with all the activities of the kitchen and be prepared to do them in a pinch
  • Maintain professional standards of conduct and appearance at all times
