Katherine and Kyle tied the knot on August 29, 2015. These newlyweds said their “I dos” at the Crab Apples, and danced the night away in The Garden Terrace.
How did you and your partner meet?
Kyle and I met online on Match in the fall of 2014. We went on one date and were then pretty inseparable. We are always amazed that we had never crossed paths before. Louisville often feels like a small town despite its size and with us being the same age and both growing up there, we laugh at all the times we may have been at the same UK game or same bar or concert. We decided it was fate that we met at the time we did, and everything has worked out from there.
Tell us about the engagement?
About two months after we met, I went on a medical mission trip to Kenya. He made me promise to come home safely so we could get married. While I was away, I was reasonable certain Kyle had already been ring shopping. We had talked about getting engaged, but I told him I wanted to wait until December since we had known each other for such a short time. I guess Kyle got impatient as he popped the question on November 30th. To his credit, I was completely surprised.
What made Fearrington the place for you to say “I do?’
We were looking for a destination wedding that was both sophisticated yet welcoming. We wanted to be far enough away from home where it felt like a destination wedding, but also a place to where at least one of us had some ties. I attended college in North Carolina and worked there in the horse industry for several years after graduation. Kyle always talked about getting married on a horse farm in North Carolina and when we finally found Fearrington through Relais & Chateaux, we instantly knew it was the perfect spot. It had everything we wanted and dreamed about for our big day: the location, the surroundings, the food and wine, the accommodations, and the expertise of Gilda McDaniel and her team. We couldn’t have asked for a better place. We were even excited to trade in the idea of a horse farm for
Belties, goats and donkeys.
Describe the highlight moment of your wedding day.
It’s too hard to pick just one! Some of our favorite moments include our first look in the Pecan Grove and photos in all of the gardens, seeing the flowers that Mary arranged throughout the ceremony and in the Garden Terrace for the reception, saying “I do” in front of our closest friends and family, meeting in the Garden House with the wedding party just after the ceremony for champagne, the view of the Garden Terrace with the overhead lights and watching the sunset over the cows grazing, dancing the night away, the list
goes on and on. I can say that our guests still consistently say it was the best food they’ve ever had. One of the best decisions we made was Gilda’s suggestion of bringing out late-night snacks of grilled cheese, french fries and Beltie ice-cream sandwiches. It seemed to make the night last just a little longer, which was great because I never wanted it to end.
Is there anything you want to add about your wedding story?
All I can add to our wedding story is to say that if we had to do it all over again, we wouldn’t change anything. We believe God brought us together at the perfect time and directed us to the perfect place. It was an unforgettable night, but also an unforgettable week that we spent at Fearrington gearing up
for the big day. We are so thankful to everyone who made it so special to us. We have already planned our anniversary trip back this year.
This wedding was designed and coordinated by Fearrington’s own Gilda McDaniel. Photography by Krystal Kast Photography.
In Our Spa
Healthy skin is at the cornerstone of supporting one’s overall well being. Modern lifestyle is hard on our bodies and skin. Many internal and external health conditions can affect skin function, thus leaving it vulnerable and devitalized. The pure herbal compounds found throughout the De La Terre Skincare collection gently shift skin into nutritional balance, where repair and healing can take place.

At Dovecote, we strive for style in all areas. From apparel to dog accessories and everything in between, a stylish life is a happy life.
Labor Day is behind us and with that, it's time to put away the rosé and dive into a spiced red wine sangria. Bright lemons and limes and fuchsias are turning to charcoals and burgundies and soft doeskin color palettes. Goodbye to linen, hello to cashmere.
And hello to fun fall parties! We love to decorate with fall in mind. We have several tabletop... Full Post >

The Fearrington-Fullsteam Fall beer is our take on an English-style Extra Special Bitter (ESB). To give the beer a Southern twist, we add over 100 pounds of cider apple pomace (pressed apple pulp) from Silver Creek and Seamans Orchards in Virginia. These fruity apple tones complement the ESB's natural nutty and sweet aromas, resulting in flavors of caramel, toasted malts, and a lingering apple sweetness.
On the label, we call this seasonal offering "the true taste of autumn in the South,"... Full Post >
