Style Resolutions

New year, new you! New style! New Dovecote!

A perennial Dovecote favorite, the Milo from Equestrian, now in new colors for the upcoming season.

There’s something so refreshing about beginning a brand new year. That feeling of optimism and opportunity, of hope and excitement. We love it because it means more shopping!

We’re already starting to get new items in the store, from tried and true designers such as Equestrian (Milo pants are in stock!) to brand new lines such as Pink Tartan, Mahi and Hendrika.

A trend that’s been picking up steam is the idea of your closet as a “capsule collection,” full of the perfect go-to items for each season. This is easy dressing at its finest, where you can reach in the closet and pull out something you’re guaranteed to love and it’s guaranteed to work with the rest of the pieces in your wardrobe. We love to stock our closets with P. Taylor shirts and Equestrian leggings, so easy to top with more out-there accessories, such as a funky ZoWEE necklace or a chunky bracelet from Dominique Denaive.

Another common style resolution is to pop out of your comfort zone. For some this means trying a new silhouette or some new and different colors and for others it means testing out a trend or an up and coming designer. So while you’re accustomed to skinny jeans and leggings, we encourage you to embrace the wide-leg that’s so in for spring. If your closet is full of Eileen Fisher, maybe it’s time to try some TY-LR or Lareida.

Whether your resolution is to completely overhaul your wardrobe and stock with just the basics or to branch out and try new fashions on for size, our in-house stylists are happy to help!

Helping The Birds Weather Winter

The sudden arrival of winter weather in our area  - and on National Bird Day, at that - has inspired us to share a brief summary of ways to help our garden friends survive the toughest and coldest days of the season. Providing shelter from the storm can be as easy as making small piles of brush here and there throughout the garden. Adding some leafy branches to the top of the piles will give additional cover to birds trying to stay warm. Leaving dead trees up - where possible - allows... Full Post >

Giving Back with reBouquet

Our principle floral designer, Mary Stevens, and her team have been working with reBouquet, an organization associated with The Flower Shuttle, since January. ReBouquet collects donated floral arrangements to be recycled and shared with community members who need them most. We are thrilled to share more about this organization's lovely work in our community. What is reBouquet? reBouquet is a volunteer organization with the mission to collect donated flowers and recycle them into new... Full Post >

Style Defined: CHIC

This look was styled by Sharon. There is no better time to wear glittery pants than the holiday season. We love this cigarette-style pair from Day Birger et Mikkelsen, especially paired with a reversible architectural top from TY-LR. A pair of extra sparkly earrings, hand beaded by Miguel Ases and a paprika-colored leather Opera clutch from Joanna Maxham complete the look and it’s all perfectly punctuated by this stylish heel from Bettye Muller. We picture this look at a celebratory... Full Post >

Holiday Greenery

While there may not be any snow - or even freezing temperatures - this holiday season, the gardens at Fearrington are lush with beautiful greenery and berried branches to inspire our Garden Team. We've been growing and cutting many of our favorites for years, and thought we would share some of the best with you to add to your own cutting gardens. Here in the Carolina Piedmont, we are fortunate to be able to grow many broadleaf evergreens, and there is nothing more iconic than bunches of... Full Post >

Stocking Stuffers

What's more fun than stockings during the holidays? So many little gifts . . . all the better to prolong the holidays! Here at Dovecote, we've got just the thing. Or things, rather. Pretty ring dishes for the ladies, whimsical socks for the gents, artisan salts for the foodie and fun bottle openers for the bar aficionado. We have pens and stationery from Kate Spade, jewelry from Robin Haley and Miguel Ases, pocket squares from Armstrong and Wilson. The list goes on and on! Pop by the... Full Post >
