Ashley & Jason

Ashley and Jason tied the knot on February 28, 2015. These newlyweds said their “I dos” at the Garden Terrace, and danced the night away in the Fearrington Barn.

How did you and your partner meet?
We went to the same college, Carnegie Mellon University, and actually lived on the same floor freshman year. We really didn’t start to know each other until the second semester that year, when I couldn’t figure out the Virtual Lab assignments from Chem 2 class and someone had casually mentioned, “Jason knows how to do them.” We were friends for a few years before we started dating the end of our senior year.

Tell us about the engagement?
So, we really don’t have a story of how we got engaged – it was never a surprise sort of thing. We had agreed that while we were dating, if things were going well with our relationship during Jason’s time at UNC Medical School, that we would get married during his fourth year of medical school. And we did.

What made Fearrington the place for you to say “I do?’
We really like how all-inclusive the venue is, and they really make you feel special, especially on your wedding day! I really appreciated that Fearrington takes care of the food, the cake, the flowers, and the planning (much less stress for the couple!), and they have a list of preferred vendors to choose from who really are awesome!

Describe the highlight moment of your wedding day.
The biggest highlight of our day was actually getting married, after so many months of anticipation. And also the fact that we could have the wedding. Two days before our wedding, there was a huge snow storm. We were very nervous if the wedding would go as planned and if our guests would be able to make it. But all of our guests braved the winter weather, and the snow did make Fearrington picturesque. The feel of our wedding extra cozy – they were able to light the fireplace on in the Garden Terrace during the ceremony! The other highlight was getting Jason to perform a tap dance with me and my tap dancing friends.

Anything you want to add about your wedding story?
The wedding planning really was a team effort. Jason was so supportive and helpful! He even made a Pinterest page for Mary to give her ideas about how we envisioned the flowers!
For our wedding, we really got everything we wanted – an easygoing and fun wedding with lots of dancing, good food, and throwing a great party with our friends and family, and we owe it all to Fearrington! Everyone we worked with was so awesome – Gilda, Mary, Emma, Rabbi Ariel Edery, Krystal Kast, DJ Randy B, Pamela Hung, and the whole Fearrington staff! Thank you!!

This wedding was designed and coordinated by Fearrington’s own Gilda McDaniel.

Divine Intervention or Maker’s Mark?

We've had bridal couples consider it before, and I remember thinking it was a cute idea, but now I am a believer! I’m talking about Burying the Bourbon -- really. In our planning meeting, I realized that Libby was serious about burying a bottle of Bourbon at her wedding site 30 days before her and Will's big day. So, our gardener Donna cheerfully obliged. A month later, Will did the honors of digging up the buried treasure just before the ceremony, in the midst of a heatwave with... Full Post >
