Tipton and Eric tied the knot on July 12, 2014. These newlyweds said their “I dos” under the Crab Apples, and danced the night away at the Fearrington Barn.
How did you and Eric meet?
We met in 2011 in Orlando, Florida. At the time, Eric was working for the Orlando Magic, and I was a sixth grade math teacher in Orlando. Once we met and began talking, we immediately realized we had something in common: we were both from North Carolina! I admitted that I wanted to move back there eventually, and Eric said the same thing!
Tell us about your engagement?
A few months before the engagement, we had made the decision to move to North Carolina in August 2013. We decided we wanted to try out some of the restaurants that we hadn’t been to, since we would be moving soon. After dinner, we took a short walk to a frozen yogurt place. We decided to eat it outside since the weather was, at the time, cooperating with us
A few minutes into our frozen yogurt and we both noticed the sky getting very dark. Eric had finished his yogurt and is eyeing mine. I figured we would just start walking since it looked like it was about to rain at any minute. Eric asks if I want to take a walk around the lake, which was just across the street. I take my yogurt and we get to the lake just as it starts sprinkling.
Well, needless to say, we didn’t make it all the way around the lake (Eric had planned to propose in a spot near a cute little gazebo). He managed to take my cup of yogurt, place it to the side, get down on one knee, and ask me right before the sky really opened up! We stopped a lady who was walking her dog to take a picture of us.
What made Fearrington the place for you to say “I do?’
Tipton: Growing up in Chapel Hill, I knew I wanted to get married close to my hometown. Eric and I looked at many sites around the area, but once we toured Fearrington, we knew it was the place for us!
Describe the highlight moment of your wedding day?
Although the entire day seemed to go by in a flash, there were many incredible memories from that day that stood out. The barn was decorated beautifully, the food was absolutely delicious, and The Embers, who played at our reception, brought down the house! However, with my mom and brother walking me down the aisle, the moment I saw Eric as I turned the corner and approached the trellis was the highlight of the day. I will never forget that moment!
Is there anything else you’d like to add about your wedding story?
The entire staff at Fearrington is top notch and many of our guests expressed to us that this was the best wedding they had ever attended! From the start of planning the wedding with Gilda, to our sparkler exit at the end of the reception, everything was perfect and exactly how we imagined it would be. We wish we could do it all over again!
